Eye To The Telescope

Friday, February 17, 2012. Former readers of Eye To The Telescope might be interested in reading my new blog 'Weird Fishes'. Sunday, October 3, 2010. The Bitter Harvest Of A Dying Bloom. This is without a doubt the hardest blog entry I've ever had to write, and that is because it's my last. I've been blogging now since March 2007, and when it comes time to put fingertips to keyboard I do sometimes struggle for inspiration. If I've made you laugh, cry, sympathise, get angry, or get out there birding, butt...

Eye To The Telescope: May 2010

http://regthebirder.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 28, 2010. The Birding Month - May 2010. Well, May and a bit of April to be completely accurate. Following my birthday celebrations, I headed to Scotland and the Lake District with the family. Birding was never really the main focus during our trip, but despite this we saw a good number of decent birds, including some of my personal favourites like wood warbler. All of them self-found too, which always adds to the fun. Other goodies included tree sparrows. Osprey at Loch of Lowes. Was a piece ...

Eye To The Telescope: July 2010

http://regthebirder.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, July 20, 2010. The Birding Month - July 2010. I've been reading a lot of Jack Kerouac this month, and this blog entry is inspired by and is in the style of his most famous novel, On The Road. Pictures follow, which will probably make more sense! We were in Criccieth now. What did they call such birds in Goethe's Germany? Then came Monday, the time of unsuccessful butterfly hunting among the dunes near Caernarfon. I didn't have enough gen to find the Dark Green Fritillary. And True Lover's Knot.

I've been blogging now since March 2007, and when it comes time to put fingertips to keyboard I do sometimes struggle for inspiration. If I've made you laugh, cry, sympathise, get angry, or get out there birding, butterflying or mothing, then I suppose I have achieved my goal. If I have failed to provoke a reaction of any sort, then I h...

Eye To The Telescope: August 2010

http://regthebirder.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 22, 2010. The Butterfly Effect - August 2010. For those of you who found last month's Kerouac-inspired blog entry a tad bizarre, you'll be pleased to here that my promise to base August's missive on Dylan Thomas' Under Milkwood was just a joke. So rest assured - there'll be no mention of the fishingboatbobbing sea, Captain Cat, nor any references to neddying among the snuggeries of babies, whatever the hell that means! Dylan Thomas - berserker. A missed opportunity maybe? Are pretty titchy...

Brightside Birding: November 2009

http://brightsidebirding.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 03, 2009. The nights are closing in, it's getting cold and with the spectre of Christmas now looming you have to find something to keep your spirits up. What finer way to do so, than by standing by a pond in Walsall on a Saturday morning, waiting for the gulls to roll in from the tip, have a bath, before they nap on the shore. Yes, it can only be Stubber's Green. Larophobics look away now! We were keen to see a 100% cast-iron Caspo this time. Like this one below (picture courtesy of Reg).

Poor bird photography in the Tame Valley. A simple blog of my attempts to photograph birds within the Tame Valley on the Warwickshire / Staffordshire border. There will be images from further afield, But they probably won't be of any better quality. Wednesday, 9 June 2010. Just a few slightly better shots of the Grey Plover. Not sure this bird is going to be stopping, as with all the rain we have had lately the water levels in the Tame Valley rise rapidly, which usually move any waders present on.
