8216;Friends’ Category. Laquo; Older Entries. An extra special Chicago Marathon. I’m about to share two points that are somewhat unrelated, but will make sense. 1 I’m super nerdy about the Chicago Marathon. Maybe it’s because I love that it runs right by my apartment, but going out to cheer and watch as people run through my hood makes me ridiculously happy and inspired. This year, those two points intersected. To keep on track with my 10K training, I had to run 5 miles yesterday, so I promised I would r...

The good, bad and ugly of my trip « Everyday Adventures (of Me in the City) — Chicago, IL

The good, bad and ugly of my trip. Yes I may be one of those bloggers who talks a tad at length about about her trip. But really, nothing else exciting is going on right now. So in this post, I’ll talk about the good/bad/ugly of the three month journey to Southeast Asia and sojourn to Australia. Yes, some meals were a disaster but overall, I liked everything I got to try. Weird health stuff – Asia is very different from the US. And because of that, my body would just react weird to the dirt and...Food po...

Failing at Monday « Everyday Adventures (of Me in the City) — Chicago, IL

Today I failed at Monday. Or, to quote Office Space, I had a case of the Mondays. Big time. Almost to the point of saying, hey I need to go home and just start over again, okay? I have a routine in the mornings to get myself up, cleaned up, dressed and out the door by a specific time, with my little lunch bag and if needed, workout clothes too. Yes, I’m still not back on morning workout time, one day. Verify in my elevator that I put on deodorant. Seriously you guys, I’m batting a thousand today. Forget ...

8216;gym’ Category. Laquo; Older Entries. Yes, I’m dedicating a post to farts. Running is a really hard sport on your body. Your stomach turns in to a cement mixer and god know what will happen to it when you are out on a run. Bodily functions become a loose cannon sometimes and you just don’t know what’s gonna happen. And no, I’m not talking about explosive #2’s while running, but cropdusting, aka farts. I don’t know, but I feel like I might be able to test that soon. I was tempted to go up and say some...

Being in the moment « Everyday Adventures (of Me in the City) — Chicago, IL

Being in the moment. I’m not great at being “in the moment.” I tend to get distracted or immediately think ahead to “what’s next.”. So while I was gone, I decided to really try and take in those moments, savor them and be present. But, when you’re gone for three months, time tends to blend together. So I made a note on my phone of my moments from the trip. Where I was really present and happy. And allowed myself to feel it. Seeing the Sapa rice fields for the first time. (Sapa is in northern Vietnam,...

Letter to my nephew: First birthday « Everyday Adventures (of Me in the City) — Chicago, IL

Letter to my nephew: First birthday. Dear Derrick –. You are almost one year old. Last summer, I wrote you a letter (while you were still unnamed) that talked about the hopes I had for you and me together as aunt and nephew. And now that we have been together for almost a year, I thought it was time to write you another letter. Be warned, it gets mushy. You are the love of my life, and I’m so glad you are my nephew. Thank you for giving me the best job I’ve ever had. August 13, 2015 at 11:27 pm.

On having nice things. I did not grow up with money. We were comfortable, but after my parents split, that changed. I worked a lot to have money to provide for myself throughout high school and college. And when I started working professionally, and did so for a long time, I got used to finally treating myself to nicer things. Or just treating myself in general and not feeling guilty about it. Then, I got laid off, and suddenly all of that security disappeared. But the mentality of needing to ration, cut...

8216;family’ Category. Laquo; Older Entries. A memorable weekend at home. If you’ve read this blog for a while, you know that I don’t talk about family much at all anymore, but this time I had to share. This weekend, I was back in Wisconsin for a big family event. My grandpa was taking part in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight. The Wisconsin branch of the national Honor Flight Network. Which honors World War II veterans. I literally start to cry every time I watch because the emotion, joy and crowd made...
