We approach the beast slowly as it stares down on us from what seems to be an unattainable height. The steepest pitch of the climb is right at the beginning and the elites slowly pull away from me. I know that to try and fly with them at this point would certainly be futile so I proceed at what I consider to be a sustainable pace.
