Roots-n-Shoots

Saturday, January 21, 2012. Not Quite Dumpster Diving. I saw my hero today for the first time. At a local supermarket, there is a manager who does a very noble thing. This person goes the extra mile to liberally distribute the “Manager’s Special” orange tags on some choice items as they approach (and sometimes pass . . . shhh! Their expiration dates. As a result, the store is often glistening in little orange labels, like the glitter of new fallen snow, and they call out to me. Monday, January 16, 2012.

Roots-n-Shoots: Pantry Check: Not Bare

http://www.roots-n-shoots.blogspot.com/2011/06/pantry-check-not-bare.html

Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Pantry Check: Not Bare. I was hungry tonight and wanted a snack. All I could find were some tortilla chips to munch on. I don't do corn chips plain, so I was about to skip out for something else. Sometimes you have to take a second look through your pantry before you declare it to be bare. What a great little snack, and nutritious too! I used up some items that were in danger of going bad before they were eaten. Not bad. Labels: Food and Recipes. Sustainable Living and Health.

Roots-n-Shoots: Going Native

http://www.roots-n-shoots.blogspot.com/2011/05/going-native.html

Wednesday, May 25, 2011. I have felt like I was on the Lewis and Clark expedition, with all my energy inward on my stuff and barely looking around, keeping anything and everything because "I might need it someday." It was an empty, unsatisfying experience. The box of maps itself does not bring with it what made those moments special. Why keep them? Some archivist might come along with a quite lovely idea- I could make a collage of these maps and put it on the wall! I could easily devote the next several ...

Roots-n-Shoots: January 2011

http://www.roots-n-shoots.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 30, 2011. Artistic Formation through the Public Forum. Beatitude Sunday is probably not the best day to play Prometheus. Unless you enjoy tragic irony, that is. I have a lot of friends who are closet artists of all kinds. One major lesson I have taken from my 6 months as Music Director of a church is how crucial it is to. Just get out there. And put your art in a public setting. This is true for any art form- music, prose writing, you name it. In addition, a choir needs to give feedback t...

Scott's Shoebox: Why blogs are bad for organizing information

http://scott-teresi.blogspot.com/2009/02/why-blogs-are-bad-for-organizing.html

Why blogs are bad for organizing information. The latest posts could be shown in a "what's new" section. My old home page. And my writing page. Tried to accomplish this to a degree. If someone discovers a blog a year or two after it's been around, they have no idea what the best essays were from the past. I think this is a shortcoming of any blog that posts infrequent but substantial essays (like tecznotes's book reviews. Or Aaron Swartz's essays. Saturday, February 28, 2009. Scott's Shoebox: Moving a piano

http://scott-teresi.blogspot.com/2009/03/moving-piano.html

Newly retired from teaching, my parents are undertaking a massive reevaluation of everything in their house that's not nailed down. Quickly they spotted a piano in the living room. I had played it for eight years, but I don't have space for it at my place, so out it goes. Fortunately Andy ( blog. Had the space and the required venture capital. Why not pay for it with beef from a bull that had got a bit too unruly last fall! Tom and Andy set the piano down. House still shaking when picture was taken:.

Juggling in the Circleville Pumpkin Festival, 2010 Edition. Each October, the Jest Jugglers. Head down to Circleville, south of Columbus, Ohio, and show off their skillz in front of the crowds during the Thursday Pumpkin Festival parade. My Trip to the IJA Juggling Festival. Location: Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Participants: About ten members of the Club JJ - Columbus Jest Jugglers ( MySpace. Plus several hundred other jugglers. The IJA juggling festival. This July was fantastic. It was a week-long juggling meet in a huge convention center room with gaudy carpeting. All these great jugglers would be practicing crazy stuff at all hours! I've been getting in some practice at club passing. I guess you can look at a lot of sports that way.

The US. School of the Americas. I've been enjoying the book Disturbing the Peace: The Story of Father Roy Bourgeois and the Movement to Close the School of the Americas. The authors, James Hodge and Linda Cooper. Left New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and now live here in Columbus, Ohio. They're very friendly and helpful people, and time flies during their twice-monthly book study. At the Columbus Catholic Worker. To monitor and demonstrate against the school. Itself thoroughly researched.). For decade...

Scott's Shoebox: On the road

http://scott-teresi.blogspot.com/2009/08/on-road.html

A question keeps coming up. since I can work anywhere from my laptop, why not get out of Columbus and travel the country? So figured out some of the practical matters:. Motel bills can add up to a lot, so maybe I can avoid them most nights. Besides, they're kind of dismal places when you're traveling alone. I can try camping, staying in hostels, sleeping in the car (I can fold the seats down), or connecting up with people through couchsurfing.org. Can I actually fit in there? I'll be back in Columbus to ...

Scott's Shoebox: Living on the road

http://scott-teresi.blogspot.com/2011/10/living-on-road.html

Living on the road. I'm currently on an extended road trip to New England, living and working on the road! I'm posting pictures and updates here on Facebook. I tried this experiment before, traveling into southern Ohio. I also just took a three-week plane trip to visit my sister in Salt Lake City, and friends in Colorado and Seattle (and a short trip to Vancouver). This involved a lot of mountain climbing in Colorado and hill climbing in Seattle. Photos here on Facebook. Saturday, October 01, 2011. Image...

И этого хватит на всю грядущую тьму. Jun 25th, 2013 at 5:55 PM.
