Fabrications – Sand In My Shoes (part two). August 4, 2007 at 7:47 am ( Applique. Batiks serve as the perfect fabrics for making these little flowers since they are tightly woven and quite colorful. Once you have completed the free motion stitching on each of the circles, remove the Solvy from you hoop. Clip around each flower, leaving all the loose extended threads in place. Circles Clipped from Solvy. Apply beads or buttons to embellish the flower centers. I used “tye dye” glass beads. Just got a new s...

August 8, 2007 at 6:11 am ( Family. I took this picture of my mother and my grandson last Christmas. My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s type dementia 4 1/2 years ago. Although she hasn’t known who I am for some time, she never forgot how to embroider (that’s an embroidery hoop in her hands). On Sunday, she suffered a serious stroke. As you can imagine, my family is dealing with many difficult issues at the moment. Please keep us in your prayers. August 8, 2007 at 7:51 am. August 8, 2007 at 9:03 am.

Fabrications – Sand In My Shoes. August 1, 2007 at 7:18 am ( Applique. Batiks always make me think of summer vacations at the beach. If you’re like me, you probably have lots of batik scraps from past projects. Here’s a great way to transform them into beautifully embellished flowers. For this project you will need some regular Solvy, a heavy variegated cotton thread (I used Valdani #35 “Autumn”), colorful beads, an embroidery hoop, circular templates, and assorted batik fabrics. Free Motion Stitched Sma...

Fiber Folio – Illuminations. March 3, 2007 at 6:28 pm ( Angelina. Working with unusual fibers stretches my creative thinking. In fact, I often have trouble falling asleep at night because my brain refuses to stop thinking up ways to use a particular item. Angelina certainly fits into this category. For fiber artists, Angelina holds a world of possibilities because it can be bonded, spun with other fibers, painted, embossed, stitched, mixed with roving or silk fibers, cut into shapes, appliquéd, and overh...

Thank you, dear readers. September 22, 2007 at 7:06 pm ( Life and Times. My life has certainly changed since my mother suffered a stroke. She lived through it and is now in a nursing home. She lost use of the right side of her body: she can’t walk or talk. However, she is responding well to therapy and retained her ability to swallow. I also want to thank Tami at Lemon Tree Tales. I hope all of you are exploring, creating, and honing your skills. I look forward to doing the same again soon. Don’t w...

We were to go to this. Blog and read directions and go from there. We had a week to do it. Thankfully this challenge came at just the right time considering we had a ton of snow on the ground!
