Sarah By The River: April 2013

http://sarahbytheriver.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Sarah By The River. Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Read a book, an article, or a blog by a PCV and chances are you will stumble upon the more cerebral ones (lots of big words and statistics) or the worst, the ones written by smug bleeding hearts. You can spot these eye-rolling and gag inducing writers by their Look-at-me! Don't suggest a public flogging for my opinions, just yet. You may be indignantly thinking, "Hey Sarah, what the hell? Why are you hating on volunteers? Scheme to spend some time in the capit...

Sarah By The River: June 2013

http://sarahbytheriver.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Sarah By The River. Tuesday, June 18, 2013. Munchkins, Mosquitoes, and Malaria. It’s that time of year again – trainee time! Fresh-faced and bushy-tailed, the newbies arrived in-country at the beginning of March. On the docket for the next 8 weeks is a whirlwind of training in language, culture, Peace Corps policy, and technical areas. In the middle of April - just in time for World Malaria Day - Peter and I led our own training session, Introduction to Malaria. During our afternoon session, we briefed t...

Sarah By The River: December 2012

http://sarahbytheriver.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Sarah By The River. Thursday, December 27, 2012. As they argued, I sat on my front step. When Ebu grabbed the ax handle, I grabbed Knightly. As Oumie and Nene cried, I cried, still sitting on my front step. When Ebu stormed away, I carried Knightly to my hut, crying. Cuddling Knightly, I tried to calm myself and process. I wanted to go to Fatimata, but hesitated. She is my dearest friend here, but I struggled with boundaries and cultural propriety – what would I even say? Maybe she would rather be alone?

Sarah By The River. Friday, November 22, 2013. You'll have to forgive my lack of blogging. Between a spectacular holiday, excited visitors, and the completion of HIV Bike Trek, I've been incredibly busy. I swear to update properly soon soon (Gambia Time). Here are some cute videos of my favorite girls:. Oumou showing off her dancing skills before shyly diving into Alex's lap. Now, its Little Nene's turn. Got to love her fashion choices. Cute little Baby Gundo doing her own thing. View my complete profile.

Sunday, January 12, 2014. Guest Post: Justin W. Cheers to Sarah and a job well done. If you get a chance, congratulate her. She will not except it out right like any humble person. She knows the job is never done but the spark of encouragement will help her to know it has not gone unnoticed, because that all she really want as a person who tends to work in the back ground. This is my recognizing you Sarah. Congratulation and a job well done! Thursday, January 2, 2014. Some photos off the slow internet.

Monday, October 6, 2014. Readjusting and some other things. I’ve had so many people tell me, “wow, you must be so glad you’re home! Africa dangerous…yeah the roads are can be pretty bad, and accidents happen, as they do everywhere. But in my short 5 months back, I’ve experience more victimization and ‘dangerous’ situations than I did in over two years there. Earlier I had put home into quotations. Home has been redefined for me. It’s not so much of a physical place as I feel like I have a h...The purpose...

Weathervane of Peace: May 2014

http://gabbingfromgambia.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 1, 2014. Full of fear that our strength was lost. We started from rebirth. Our feet dirty, skin brown, hearts uneven. We were challenged, broken down. Left standing, the only ones, we thought. Cried out, the drums answered. Training our hearts to the rhythm. We waited, searching, listening. Facing the universe, our ears awoke. To witness the whispering of the world. Calling our strength awake. Reborn, our feet dirty, skin brown. Hearts beating in union with the drums. What is the What?

{Sarah by the Sea}

Sarah by the Sea}. Friday, July 31, 2015. According to my iPhone, the last month has been quite eventful! Our front yard lost its forest, and my front rooms gained a TON of sunlight! It's an ongoing project, but we've made a lot of progress. And by we, I mean he - that wonderful, hard working man I am fortunate enough to be married to! We fought the great raccoon battle of 2015. And I think we won! Now we can go to sleep in peace. Yep, I just wrote a whole paragraph about a lawn chair. That happened.

I hope to take the time to FINALLY write that book on bindings, edge-finishes and display options for quilts and make some new major art quilts. Here's my upcoming schedule:. June: Vermont Quilt Festival! Judging early in the week, then. Saturday, June 27: Birch Pond Season Workshop. July 24-26: Maine Quilts. Pop over and see me!
