This is Cyprus...: Rules as 'suggestions' in Cyprus...
http://cypruslife.blogspot.com/2015/07/rules-as-suggestions-in-cyprus.html
Friday, July 03, 2015. Rules as 'suggestions' in Cyprus. Last night, around 9.00pm we went for a short walk to deliver some DVDs to a friend. Even at this time of year, it's totally dark by that time, but still warm, now that Summer is well and truly here. I haven't crossed at this particular crossing for some time, but I wasn't surprised to see this as we approached:. I suppose this would be a good point to link to a post I thoroughly enjoyed writing, nearly nine years ago, about the vagaries of the Cyp...

This is Cyprus...: Cyprus road rules?
http://cypruslife.blogspot.com/2006/09/cyprus-road-rules.html
Tuesday, September 26, 2006. Since Tim is now 18, and wants to learn to drive, the first step is to learn the rules of the road (what we call the 'highway code' in the UK) and take a theory test. So he paid £2 for a copy of the Cyprus 'road traffic act' in English. Not particularly good quality printing, but never mind, so long as it contains what he wanted. When you see a ball rolling in the road what should you do. What must you remember before leaving your vehicle? You must be sure that you have pulle...

This is Cyprus...: Sunshine in Cyprus
http://cypruslife.blogspot.com/2009/11/sunshine-in-cyprus.html
Monday, November 23, 2009. The sun has shone all day. As it did yesterday. And Friday. And, indeed, most of last week, ever since the brief storms with rain and hail last Monday. So much for the weather prophet who insisted that it would pour with rain. It's predicted to continue this way - with temperatures up to about 22C during the daytime - for the next ten days. Richard had an interesting - and very Cypriot - experience this morning, when he tried to find out how to dispose of some out-of-date flares.

This is Cyprus...: Three years in our house
http://cypruslife.blogspot.com/2009/07/three-years-in-our-house.html
Monday, July 06, 2009. Three years in our house. It's three years since we moved to our house. Actually, it's three years and one day. I completely forgot about the anniversary being yesterday. But the move took several days. from getting the keys (and being able to paint) to actually sleeping there was a four day process. Completion - and the handing over of a very large cheque - took place in the middle. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. A third sleepover for young friends.

This is Cyprus...: Summer in Cyprus. Again.
http://cypruslife.blogspot.com/2015/06/summer-in-cyprus-again.html
Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Summer in Cyprus. Again. It's over a month - almost six weeks - since I wrote about the approach of Summer in Cyprus. It hasn't been the inexorable march that some of us expected; instead, it's been a slow and steady approach. The daytime shade temperature now, as we near the end of June, has been around 28-30C, but that's nowhere near as bad as it sometimes is by this time of year. Cleo, our 17-year-old cat, who seemed even more frail than usual during the winter, always gets a n...

This is Cyprus...: Visiting the beach
http://cypruslife.blogspot.com/2015/07/visiting-beach.html
Saturday, July 11, 2015. Now we've been here nearly eighteen years, we don't go to the beach other than during July and August. Indeed, I'm not sure that we really go 'to the beach', as such; we like to cool down in the water, perhaps to swim a little. But we have no wish to sunbathe, or build sandcastles. We only go when it's shady, not before about 5.00pm. We might even go again next week. Thats the way it is. I think we visited more local spots before we moved here or shortly after. I need to ...INFJ ...

This is Cyprus...: After the fire on the Larnaka Salt Lake trail
http://cypruslife.blogspot.com/2015/05/after-fire-on-larnaka-salt-lake-trail.html
Saturday, May 30, 2015. After the fire on the Larnaka Salt Lake trail. A few days ago, there was a fire near the Salt Lake. In Larnaca. We saw smoke from our house, and heard sirens. I gather an arrest has been made, and that it was most likely bored teenagers; however it's also been said that it was possibly deliberate, in the hope of destroying mosquitoes. The latter seems rather unlikely, but perhaps we'll never know. There was one place - on the other side of the trail itself - where there was still ...

This is Cyprus...: Mincemeat Managed!
http://cypruslife.blogspot.com/2014/12/mincemeat-managed.html
Tuesday, December 02, 2014. Today dawned - unusually - grey and misty. Still, it was somewhat less chilly than it was at the end of last month, and I didn't feel too cold as I set out on my thrice-weekly 5km walk with my friend Sheila. It was quite unusual that the mountains in the distance were almost invisible, and we saw flamingoes rather closer than usual - I still had to zoom the camera somewhat to snap them, but think they're visible if you click the image to enlarge it:. I decided that, since I no...

This is Cyprus...: The approach of Summer in Cyprus
http://cypruslife.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-approach-of-summer-in-cyprus.html
Saturday, May 16, 2015. The approach of Summer in Cyprus. Alex and Joan celebrated their first birthday on April 4th. At that stage they were still mostly indoor cats, going out on the balconies but no further. Well, not unless they escaped when we opened the front door. After a couple of hours or more he usually comes into the house, has a quick snack and a long drink of water, and then flops on the beanbag:. Its a worry when they first go out, isnt it?
