Climbing in West Virginia: A Ride out of Wardensville
http://silverspringwanderer.blogspot.com/2015/07/climbing-in-west-virginia-ride-out-of.html
Exploring the natural world, primarily in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, but occasionally other far flung places. Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Climbing in West Virginia: A Ride out of Wardensville. I am catching up on some blog posts after a very busy few weeks. Two weekends ago, we went out and rode this route. I only had my phone with me for a camera, so the picture quality isn't as good as usual. At the top of a hill on old highway 55. Wineberries at the top of that same hill. Garde...

Exploring the natural world, primarily in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, but occasionally other far flung places. Monday, July 28, 2014. Riding Skyline Drive: Bear Cubs! She was followed by these two little cubs! They were so cute (click to enlarge). I wasn't quite quick enough to get a picture of them on the road. They moved pretty fast. They had to run to keep up with their mother. It was impressive to see how careful she was about crossing the road. Sunday, July 27, 2014. The Jef...

Exploring the natural world, primarily in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, but occasionally other far flung places. Wednesday, May 28, 2014. Utah Part 6: The Cycling Tour. I passed a group of four or five pronghorn antelope along the side of the road. In the meantime, Michael was doing worse. The next day, he opted to just ride in the van. We crossed our fingers and hoped it was just food poisoning (i.e. not contagious). Below the rim at Bryce Canyon. We biked through the Escalante Ri...

Tangled Up in Denver. The mad ravings of a mother, knitter, gardener, and general lunatic. My parents really tried to get me to be a musician. Five years of piano lessons, but the truth is I’m just not that musical and I hated playing. I can’t believe how different the kids are in that regard-they’ve gotten Eric’s musical talent (thank goodness) and actually enjoy playing. Today the boy disappeared for a while and when I went to check on him, this is what I found him doing:. From → 8 years old.

Tangled Up in Denver. The mad ravings of a mother, knitter, gardener, and general lunatic. Front yard vegetable garden. Summertime has been a blast so far. The boy did his week of mountain bike camp and started doing some small jumps (and making my heart stop), my sister had a beautiful and fun wedding [for which there will be a separate dedicated detailed post, as my sister already called to complain about this], and then we went to Disneyland and the beach! Fyi, she was awful. Beachy day of relaxation.

Mountaineer Hiker: March 2012

Hiking and exploring the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and beyond. Tuesday, March 27, 2012. The picture of what I called a salamander in my last post is actually a Red Spotted Eastern Newt. According to the website I was reading this one is a juvenile. Juveniles are typically bright orange and don't always have their red spots until they mature. The scat that I was wondering about is probably from a fox. That's right, I was reading up on identifying animal turds. Monday, March 26, 2012. 6 Press into...
