Skip Cottage Curling: October 2011

http://skipcottagecurling.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 31, 2011. Kay Adams, the hard working Communications and Web Content Officer with the Royal Club, is moving on after two years to take up a similar post with Barratt Homes East Scotland Ltd. She will be leaving the Royal Club on November 9. The Royal Club is reviewing roles and responsibilities among staff and plans to advertise soon. Indeed, the position of a 'Marketing Officer' is already on the organisation's website here. And that feeling is mutual, Kay. Royal Caledonian Curling Club.

Skip Cottage Curling: February 2011

http://skipcottagecurling.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 28, 2011. Grand Masters at Greenacres. Christine Stewart sends this report:. Sixty-four curlers, every one a Grand Master, gathered at Greenacres Curling Club last week for a two day bonspiel. To qualify for this competition all the participants had to have achieved three score years and ten. That gave them a combined minimum age of 4,480 years! And just try to imagine the number of stones these guys have thrown over the years. We have Masters and Grand Masters, what about Legends? The l...

Skip Cottage Curling: March 2011

http://skipcottagecurling.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 31, 2011. Rhona Martin did the honours in throwing the official 'opening stone', with local young curlers Fiona Telfer and Naomi Whyte in attendance. And here we all were, with the question, "How much help would Rhona's stone need to get to the tee? Actually, very little. Pretty much right on the poppy, Rhona, well done, although the perfectionists would say that Ruaraidh Whyte must have given her a couple of inches too much ice! Photos © Skip Cottage. Skip Cottage Curling: Team of the Day at Forfar

http://skipcottagecurling.blogspot.com/2010/10/team-of-day-at-forfar.html

Saturday, October 16, 2010. Team of the Day at Forfar. The Women's Tour event at Forfar Indoor Sports continued today (Saturday). The teams are playing in two sections and, as I write this, all have played two matches. One more to go today. The results can be found on the Royal Club website here. Lorna and Kirsty Balfour chew over the options. Nicola Woodward delivers, with Suzie Law and Kirsty Balfour at the ready. Oh, she does go on.". Suzie Law, and a leg. Where is Champery, anyway? Back in the Box.

Toothy Tales: Snow almost stops play

http://toothytalescurling.blogspot.com/2012/02/snow-almost-stops-play.html

Monday, February 06, 2012. Snow almost stops play. Of course we all know that the South of England has a great climate and it never snows very often, but when it does, it stops everything. Well, it nearly stopped the English Championships in its tracks this weekend and, but for a fortunate bit of programming, I think we would still be waiting to hear who had won this year’s English Men’s Championship. And the piece of good fortune was that the draw for the seven team competition, which gave each team a b...

Toothy Tales: December 2010

http://toothytalescurling.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Also I hope you have had time to read my last epic. Don’t worry as this one will be considerably shorter as it focuses on just one event – the English Mixed Doubles. And the title – see the footnote for explanation if you are too young and that might explain! We originally had six entries but injury forced one withdrawal and so the five teams left played a single round robin with no play-offs but tie-breakers would be used if necessary. So Jane and John will head off to St P...

Toothy Tales: January 2011

http://toothytalescurling.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 24, 2011. Reflections on the Four Nations. In addition to all the reporting from Bob on his blog from Fenton’s here are just a few thoughts from me on what was a successful weekend. Obviously it had an effect on how I used my time in the run up to the weekend, at least until the Scottish team had organised themselves, as it meant that I had an additional task of trying to raise a team to fill the gap which had appeared in our schedule. My apologies also for the lack of scores on any websi...

Toothy Tales: A Triumph of Experience over Youth

http://toothytalescurling.blogspot.com/2012/01/triumph-of-experience-over-youth.html

Monday, January 16, 2012. A Triumph of Experience over Youth. There were originally six entries for the Championship but unfortunately Nigel Patrick and Alison Hemmings had to withdraw when Nigel was admitted to hospital just a few days before, leaving John and Lorna, and myself and Jean Robinson to face the massed ranks of the Kent Juniors! Well done to John on his fourth successive title and to Lorna for winning her first opportunity to play in a World event. Lorna Rettig and John Sharp, ECA Mixed Doub...

Toothy Tales: And Not Forgetting the Juniors!

http://toothytalescurling.blogspot.com/2012/01/and-not-forgetting-juniors.html

Thursday, January 05, 2012. And Not Forgetting the Juniors! Well, Copey has done his bit about the Seniors (see Behind the Glass. So I thought I would bring a bit of balance by posting from here in Copenhagen about the European Junior Challenge. It is always a pleasure to come to Taarnby, though today’s flight was a bit on the bumpy side both taking off and landing! As I write they are playing the undefeated home team who have looked impressive so far. (Currently it is 2-2 after 5 ends). Another country ...

TEAM SMITH: January 2012

http://teamsmithcurling.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Monday, 30 January 2012. Scottish Junior Championships 2012. Our week at the Scottish Junior Championships started on Wednesday, a day later than the mens section, with our first two games against Maggie Wilson and then Hannah Fleming. Thursdays first game began with Mhairi Paul's team, we began this game with consecutive steals in the first 3 ends and the score at the 5th end break was 4-1. A convincing 3 at the 8th end left the score 8-3 to us and the handshakes were offered. Next we played Jennifer Ma...
