SMI Carburetor: how to find a "dead" cylinder
http://smicarb.blogspot.com/2010/10/how-to-find-dead-cylinder.html
Saturday, October 16, 2010. How to find a "dead" cylinder. Does your engine run rough at idle and low speed but smooth out at higher RPM? More than likely you have a cylinder that is not firing. To find which cylinder it is-. Hook up a tachometer that you can see from the engine compartment. Start the engine and adjust the idle speed to approx. 1300 RPM. Using a pair of insulated gloves and insulated spark plug wire pliers, remove the #1 spark plug wire from the spark plug. SMI Sean Murphy Induction.

Wednesday, November 3, 2010. When you have a couple of hours, grab a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and some paper towels and clean your key board. That should take a few minutes. Wednesday, November 3, 2010. Just because they work at shop doesn't mean thier qulaified. Our shop does carburetor service work for other shops. one of them is a "corvette only" shop. yesterday they called and had what they thought was a problem with the carburetor the day before. after describing the issue i told them it sounded like vacuum leak(s) and potentially a timing issue. Next i used a vac. pump to check the 1/4 inch vac hose for the headlight system. guess what? Vac leak. strike two. Awesome In...

SMI Carburetor: reading spark plugs
http://smicarb.blogspot.com/2010/11/reading-spark-plugs.html
Wednesday, November 10, 2010. The proper way to read a spark plug starts with getting color on it. you must run the vehicle out to maximum RPM preferably in third or high gear, then shut the engine off as soon as you close the throttle. Obviously you want to do this in a very safe place such as a race track). When running race gas if there is no perceptible color this is an indication of a lean mixture. if the color is dark grey or gold; rich. SMI Sean Murphy Induction. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
