I’m not really sure how I grew up camping all the time, many times in the in fairly remote wilderness, as well as becoming an Eagle Scout without ever hearing about fire pistons. A while back I came across this post on Make about them and did some research. It seems like a great machining project, and a fairly simple one at that. Machining by hand in a digital world. The Mini Lathe is a great machine for the price. It has allowed me to enter the world of machining with little investment yet still get a full lathe experience (within reason). However, once you start using it, you start to understand it’s limitations and realize that you need to tweak, modify, enhance, and perform some rituals with candles and incense before you can really get consistent performance from it. 1 comment so far.
