Bright Side of Life!: January 2015
http://brightsideoflifeasd.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 27, 2015. The world of a special needs mother. I sit on the peripheral, glancing at the time displayed on my phone. It all comes down to time. Every precious second of it. Time is dictated by my child. Time revolves around him. It's not his fault. It is not mine. My personal window of time is limited. I can make a plan for extra time. A little pocket of an extra hour, or two, or three. But time always pulls me back in. Back to my child. It's not his fault. It is not mine. It is not mine.

HappyerAtHome: June 2016
http://happyerathome.blogspot.com/2016_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 27, 2016. Diana recently completed a series of three workshops for stained glass art at monroe stree studio. Where she has also gained skills and experience working with 3d printing. Under the tutelage of yana. Over several months, diana and her friend learned the skills required to make a single panel - cutting and grinding the glass, wrapping with copper foil, working with solder and flux and a soldering iron. yana started them with a basic design and allowed them their choice of colors.

rugged parenthood: Will to learn
http://atypicalparenthood.blogspot.com/2012/06/will-to-learn.html
Saturday, June 9, 2012. When my son saw me leafing through a newly bought workbook, he sat beside me on the bed and looked at the picture of the pig on a number recognition and counting activity. He said, "a pencil." What he meant. Was "I want a pencil." During our tutorial sessions, I sometimes purposely neglect to provide him with writing or coloring tools after handing him a worksheet to encourage him to notice what is missing and make the appropriate requests. What do you want? Stay Quirky, My Friends.

Bright Side of Life!: World Autism Awareness Day ~ Lighten up, people!
http://brightsideoflifeasd.blogspot.com/2015/04/world-autism-awareness-day-lighten-up_1.html
Wednesday, April 1, 2015. World Autism Awareness Day Lighten up, people! I am finding social media very scary these days. The month of April in Autism land appears to be fraught with tension. Eish, I don't know what colour to wear on the 2nd of April. Frankly, blue is my colour. I like it and it suits me. But then again, I do get compliments when I wear red. Decisions, decisions! I am so confused that I don't even know what the correct terminology is anymore! Life is all about choices and having the free...

Bright Side of Life!: August 2014
http://brightsideoflifeasd.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 31, 2014. Mindset drives actions, actions dictate results". Well, we will make a plan! In short, Nick's lovely comfortable daily life is going to be thrown upside down. He is going to face challenges which may go beyond his *edge plus one*. Mind you, we do have some memories to fall back on, a little bit of familiarity to encourage our feelings of competence. We did the same plane trip last year, and while it was a nerve racking experience (for me, not him! It was also a wonderful success.

Changed For Good: "Outside the Box" Parenting #SensoryHop
http://changedforgoodautism.blogspot.com/2015/03/outside-box-parenting-sensoryhop.html
My views on teaching elementary school and raising a son on the autism spectrum. Why Am I Calling My Son Ben? Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Outside the Box" Parenting #SensoryHop. Some of the most wonderful people are those who don't fit into boxes." -Tori Amos. I've given a lot of thought lately to my responsibilities of parenting in the digital age. I read an article this week that really got me thinking. I try very hard to maintain Ben’s privacy on this blog. Ben is different from me because he is autistic.

Day Sixty-Seven: Do me a favor
http://daysixtyseven.blogspot.com/2013/11/do-me-favor.html
Saturday, November 02, 2013. Do me a favor. I don't like to advise people. I don't like being in a position of telling others what to do. But I am. A person of strong opinions. And just this once I'd like to tell you to do something. And by "you", I especially mean those who love and support non-speaking autistic people of all ages. Please, just believe. It's the most important thing you will ever do for the person you love. They have it hard enough already. So now promise me that you won't also feel thi...

rugged parenthood: Drawing a cat
http://atypicalparenthood.blogspot.com/2012/05/drawing-cat.html
Sunday, May 27, 2012. When I started homeschooling my son in December last year, I had the impression that he didn't know how to draw anything all by himself. I had not seen him draw anything independently, although I noticed that he loved connecting dots and tracing dotted lines. He appeared to abhor coloring, and I devoted extra time to train him to tolerate, if not like, coloring pictures. I know that I. This week, I taught my son how to draw a cat's head. The model, drawn step by step:. Third attempt...
