http://udanwest.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Our homestead, reborn in the California hill country. All new adventures in sustainable living and permaculture. Thursday, May 1, 2014. With easily over a ton of acorns harvested last fall, I set out to establish whether and how I could contrive to feed them to my layers. making them more self-sufficient on the homestead and removing the imported grain subsidy. Here in CA I never see the big bags of popcorn in the movie theater dumpster, like I did in GA (these were my main poultry feed there). Permacult...

Udan West: The Scythe Must Dance
http://udanwest.blogspot.com/2015/04/the-scythe-must-dance.html
Our homestead, reborn in the California hill country. All new adventures in sustainable living and permaculture. Sunday, April 12, 2015. The Scythe Must Dance. It's a beautiful thing when an ancient hand tool can keep up with its motorized counterpart, and even do things a mower can't. At least not my wimpy electric push-mower. The scythe easily deals with a four-foot tall stand of wild oats which I would have hated to try to mow! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Know Where the Moon Is? Image: The dom...

Our homestead, reborn in the California hill country. All new adventures in sustainable living and permaculture. Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Miracles happen. Beauty happens. The world goes on, in spite of our meddling. Maybe it will be OK. Even if we stay on grid power till the farm in Georgia sells and we can set up solar and wind. Even if we have to buy firewood and food and whatever till then. Planet Earth has been through worse. Asteroid impacts, runaway climate changes. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Our homestead, reborn in the California hill country. All new adventures in sustainable living and permaculture. Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Hopefully this will be the last major basic fruit and nut planting of my life. Hopefully I will find my way up and out of transition and start-up mode, and settle in to deeper works and longer lessons. But we have a bunch of fruit trees on order for January, and I've been busy the last weeks getting the designated sites ready. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Hi everybod...
