Vista is definitely slick - it's got a much prettier (default) UI than XP. I felt that it's generally more usable than XP as well. On the down-side, the screen fade-in-fade-out effect that you get every time a system popup appears is disconcerting, and the security "features" are really in-your-face annoying. Home, sweet home.

A Zurich weekend - ternarybits

A Zurich weekend - ternarybits. Jul 23rd, 2006 06:22 pm. 47362563, 8.536988 (Grassy spot by the Zurich Sea). Continuing my posting spree. Over the weekend, I decided to explore Zurich a bit more. I spent early Saturday afternoon wandering through downtown, past expensive stores, not-quite as expensive stores, and several large churches. I ended up not buying anything, and having a late lunch at some cafe called Odeon. A club sandwich and iced tea cost me 30 SF, about par for the course here.

something to do

Wednesday, July 26, 2006. I wanted to do laundry tonight, and was pleased to find that the apartment I'm temporarily staying in has a washer. Unfortunately, it's not the sort of machine you normally see in the United States. Take a look for yourself. Naturally, when presented with this sort of UI, I reach for the instruction manual, which happened to be on top of the washer. The instructions were multi-lingual - I had my choice of German, French, and Italian instructions. Wonderful. Friday, June 02, 2006.
