Sound of Sirens: Face Saver
http://jordanfp.blogspot.com/2008/03/face-saver.html
Tuesday, March 18, 2008. From my Lonely Planet Thailand:. Constantly keeping this concept of “face” in mind was one of the most difficult adjustments I made during my first year living here. The description above is fairly accurate, although I would sum it up this way: (1) Never make anyone look bad (2) If someone looks bad, smile (3) If someone looks really bad, laugh. PS: This topic was inspired by a NYT article about something completely different, and even though it's technically about Japan, the com...

Sound of Sirens: February 2008
http://jordanfp.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 26, 2008. I bet you wish your summer break started in February. Full-time lecturer Grad student = no blogs for a month. End of the semester Summer vacation Buildup of blog ideas = more frequent blogging. High Drama (or who knew KK had such a bustling English theater scene? University Life from the other side of the desk (or what I do at my job). English Camp (or why it’s fun for 22 year olds to sing the bunny in the woods song, or why Joe makes a stunning Sandra Dee). The second one is ...

Sound of Sirens: October 2007
http://jordanfp.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 30, 2007. To start the vacation off right, Joe and I decided to sign up for a few climbing classes with a local climbing school to ensure we would be safe and hopefully gain a few pointers. We chose Wee’s Rock Climbing School. What did we do other than climb? PS Sorry about the delay in posting, I haven’t had internet at home for the past week and I’m not sure when it’s coming back. For now I’ll just have to steal a few moments to write at work when I can. Wednesday, October 17, 2007.

Sound of Sirens: Things Are Heating Up
http://jordanfp.blogspot.com/2008/04/things-are-heating-up.html
Saturday, April 12, 2008. Things Are Heating Up. Over the past few weeks the weather around here has finally started warming up to Thai summer standards after an unusually long dry/cool season. How hot is hot? Right now it is 2:00pm and the thermometer outside my door (which is in the shade, by the way) reads 99 degrees. It’s not only outside that’s heating up. I’ve also been breaking a sweat in the kitchen. My moment of glory was last Tuesday when my. Invited me to her house to do a cooking exchange.

Sound of Sirens: August 2008
http://jordanfp.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 29, 2008. Olympic Update (a little late). In the interest of fairness, CCTV’s coverage of the second week of the Olympics was much better than the first. Was it because there were more team sports? Critical articles like the one in Slate? Friday, August 15, 2008. Who can resist the Olympics? You, my friend, are sadly mistaken. Japan, Korea, Belarus, Russia combined 2%. Nations other than those listed above .5 %. Yes, I realize that adds up to 125%, but that’s because I watched the en...

Sound of Sirens: Vacay
http://jordanfp.blogspot.com/2008/07/vacay.html
Sunday, July 6, 2008. How do you sum up an amazing 35 day vacation that spans 3 countries, temperatures between somewhere cold enough to snow and 117 degrees Fahrenheit, from sea level to 16,000 feet, old friends, new friends, yaks, camels, tents, sleeper trains, beautiful hotels, tea tastings, a WWF wrestler, and emergency taxi rides that just barely get you to airport? Between the sunsets and constant fresh air, the two days flew by. Sikkim is the least populace state in India and its residents are rel...

Sound of Sirens: Just Desserts
http://jordanfp.blogspot.com/2008/07/just-desserts.html
Friday, July 18, 2008. Lately my Thai cooking skills have taken a turn towards the sweeter side. Bay has recently taught me how to make two Thai deserts, and I’m going to pass a bit of my recently acquired knowledge on to you. Too bad you can’t taste over the internet because both were amazing. If you want to try to make them yourself or are more curious about exactly how they were made, I've included the recipes below. Here are some pictures from our cooking session. Added to the coconut milk. The first...
