The Book Healer

Saturday, August 16, 2014. But it's okay to have a conversation and let it just be that- a conversation. Words spoken but not analyzed to the point where there's nothing left. It's okay to dance and laugh and not worry about taking a wrong turn or two. Nobody else cares as much as I do. So I need to let go a little, and that's what I'm going to try to do. No It's not something I can control, so I need to let go. I want to be there. I want to be in the waiting room if I can't get any closer. Suddenly all ...

The Book Healer: Rereads and Read-alouds

http://thebookhealer.blogspot.com/2014/06/rereads-and-read-alouds.html

Friday, June 27, 2014. I am a firm believer in the re-reading of old favorites. I am also a firm believer in read-alouds. This combination has been the beginning of a summer time read-aloud of. To my siblings. Yesterday we spread out a quilt and then sat (some of us on the quilt and some of us on the lawn) and read for hours. So I missed the whole point of the story. On the other end, a book that I've read at least as many times (and probably more) but still haven't changed my opinion about is. My name i...

The Book Healer: Cap-guns and bruises

http://thebookhealer.blogspot.com/2014/06/cap-guns-and-bruises.html

Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Isn't it funny hearing stories about yourself as a child? Correction. Isn't it funny hearing stories which feature another person's perspective about you? End of sentence, period. It always varies so much from the way you perceived it. Emily the homebody.) Anyway, that flight was my first. Fourteen years old. It was a big step. Especially for me. Like I said, I was a homebody. I didn't leave home for. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Ever Brilliant Miss Monica.

The Book Healer: February 2014

http://thebookhealer.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Carrot top boy: "Emilia, how art thou? External Emily: "verily well, I do indeed have the Latin book you seek.". Inward Emily: I have long dreamed of this day when I will be spoken to in a manner befitting a young woman belonging to a novel. Only at this school. I love my life. Seriously, he's as bad as sitting next to Eli. You would think he would have learned to control the wiggles by this point, but no. Shift, shift, wiggle, wiggle. Sit still. Emily: "Goodnight, Monica.".

The Book Healer: January 2014

http://thebookhealer.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Hello blog dear, I've been away. I suppose that's part of being at college though, you will have to bear with me as I neglect but never forget you. So, before I get too caught up in mindless babbling, let us begin with the actual. Topic of this post. (Yes, half of it will probably be babbling, because that is what I do best.). Long story short, isn't it funny, that feeling of sameness and difference? Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Philosophy and Jane Austen. Beware, the following...

Veni, Scripsit, Vici: July 2014

http://veniscripsitvici.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 25, 2014. Book vs. Movie: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Earlier this month, I finally got around to reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn,. However, while some of the changes were true to the nature of the story, others were not. The movie definitely. There was one scene of the film that definitely outdid the book, in my opinion. (It's a minor detail, so I don't think I'll be spoiling the larger plot for anyone interested in reading/watching A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Isn't this is a beautiful scene?

Veni, Scripsit, Vici: Hitting the Books

http://veniscripsitvici.blogspot.com/2014/05/hitting-books.html

Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Alright, folks. So I had a whole "I'm back from college" post planned full of poetic verses about how much I love school, how summer presents a new beginning, la di da di da. And then I realized that no matter how much I labored over that post, I still hated it, and I should really just jump back in to be blogging about actual stuff. So let's talk books, shall we? However, now I am free! I'm storing some of Em's. Now re-printed as The Shadow of the Bear. First, pros. The charac...

Veni, Scripsit, Vici: Back to First Principles

http://veniscripsitvici.blogspot.com/2014/07/back-to-first-principles.html

Saturday, July 5, 2014. Back to First Principles. My apologies for having been on radio silent for the past few weeks. I'm calling it a "vacation", but in reality, a fatal combination of life and blogger's block was keeping me at bay. If you could see me, you would see that I am gracefully curtsying and honoring you in return for your patience and understanding. *curtsy*. So you know what's kind of funny? More voracious readers than I in my travels. What have I got in my court? Step one, read a lot. ...
