The media had announced that we and two other areas had to be evacuated because of rising waters. But, as far as I know, very few in Paradise Park had to evacuate (one or two homes. My son has spent 14 years of his life lving abroad – 3 at the very beginning in Germany, and the past 11 in Japan. He has managed to pass all of the very difficult components of the Foreign Service exams, oral assessments, security clearances – even managed to learn, in six months, to speak/read/write Korean at an intermediate level. We were staying at Claire Tappan, Sierra Club’s rustic lodge/hostel near Lake Tahoe. There was still enough snow that May to cross country ski.
