The Bunkhouse Blog: April 2013
http://thebunkhouseblog.davidnelsonauthor.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Campfire Collection of Cowpoke Poetry. Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Deer Hunting in Nebraska. I Never Should Have Allowed Trixie to T. About ten days before we were to head out, Trixie comes to me and says she is going along! I asked her, "Why would you want to hunt? You could care less about shooting a deer, and 'sides, you don't know one end of a weapon from another! I don't care what you say, I'm going with you and Will.". Why does she want to go? You know we won't be able to do the 'Pull my finger trick'!
The Bunkhouse Blog: An Old Cowboy
http://thebunkhouseblog.davidnelsonauthor.com/2013/12/an-old-cowboy_13.html
Campfire Collection of Cowpoke Poetry. Friday, December 13, 2013. The rocker's legs creaked against the wooden porch floor. While the old man pondered of days gone by sittin' near the open door. His dusty saddle, rope and worn out spurs were hung up long ago. He no longer rode. He could barely walk. He was bent and movin' slow. His wrinkles lifted upward from a smile and he had a twinkle in his eye. Thinkin' about ropin' and ridin' in days gone by. He heard the campfire pop and the coyote sing.

Campfire Collection of Cowpoke Poetry. Saturday, August 17, 2013. My Boys Are Gone". Gone, but not forgotten". Well, folks it's with a sad heart I share with you that my three boys are gone, but not forgotten. Trixie doesn't understand how I feel because they weren't hers in the first place. Their mother was out of the picture for a long time. So basically I was left to raise and care for 'em. You look almost sick.". Trixie took her hand away from her mouth. "Come with me.". I followed her out to the bac...

Built as a summer house, the Hoopers-being "horse people", brought their horses up from San Jacinto in early spring and remained until the first snow each year. Part of the original horse coral is now a horse shoe pit area. The house still retains an original oxen yoke (converted into a chandelier)-dated 1881) that was tied to the front of Grandpa Hooper's 1915 automobile as he moved from Texas to California after striking it rich in oil discovered on his property. Same Olde Idyllwild theme alive, down t...

The Bunkhouse Chronicle | …field notes from the Figure 8 Ranch
8230;field notes from the Figure 8 Ranch. January 5, 2017. An Old Haunt, Torn Down. Bummer news this morning from an old friend and fellow denizen of the Nevada desert–they have finally demolished the ruins at American Flats. To those of us who once tromped around in this amazing and ghostly wonderland, tucked into the hills outside of Virginia City, it comes like a gut punch. It was dangerous as hell to be running around in there at all, but we didn’t consider that much in those days. It isn’t har...
