a bit of rag on a stick: December 2009
http://abitofragonastick.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
A bit of rag on a stick. I do have more important things to do you know. Thursday, December 31, 2009. The Worst Song Of 2009. Sugababes - "Get Sexy". Over 20 years ago the KLF published a book called " The Manual. Get Sexy" has no allure whatsoever - it's all over you like a divorcee after too much gin. It's basically three anonymous ladies trying too hard to be shocking over a cheap plodding synth, with a badly chosen hook jammed in as a substitute for a tune. KLF - this is all your fault. H...On second...

A bit of rag on a stick. I do have more important things to do you know. Friday, November 06, 2009. John and Edward's Excellent Adventure. Not that I watch the X Factor, you understand, but being a member of polite society I am required to have an opinion about them. In fact, I've seriously considered tuning in, just so I can participate in conversation. Damn you Cowell, you evil genius you. But the Jedward debacle does raise an interesting question - does Simon Cowell have standards? Funny Or Die UK.

a bit of rag on a stick: The Fourth Worst Track of 2007
http://abitofragonastick.blogspot.com/2007/12/fourth-worst-track-of-2007.html
A bit of rag on a stick. I do have more important things to do you know. Wednesday, December 26, 2007. The Fourth Worst Track of 2007. 4 Leon Jackson - "When You Believe". I was worried for a minute there. After considering Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" to be a fairly classy piece of pop-soul, and not even finding Shayne Ward's recent output utterly reprehensible, it truly gladdens my heart to find that I hate this year's X Factor single as much as I do. Yes, I must - for the simple reason that it is.

a bit of rag on a stick: On second thoughts, what you tell me doesn't sound that great after all...
http://abitofragonastick.blogspot.com/2009/12/on-second-thoughts-what-you-tell-me.html
A bit of rag on a stick. I do have more important things to do you know. Monday, December 21, 2009. On second thoughts, what you tell me doesn't sound that great after all. Well, when you're wrong, you're wrong. In the end, Rage Against The Machine sold just over 500,000 and Joe sold 450,000 or so. Therefore, I put my hands up and say that I completely underestimated the anti-Cowell feeling and the organisational powers of the youth of today. I salute you all. http://abitofragonastick.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
A bit of rag on a stick. I do have more important things to do you know. Monday, December 31, 2007. The Worst Track Of 2007. I Wanna Have Your Babies". For sheer fingernails-down-the-blackboard, dentist's-drill irritation, nothing else came close this year. I've gladly faced death to avoid hearing this song, lunging wildly at the car radio and taking my chances with the oncoming traffic rather than face another second of it. It's terrible on every conceivable level. A really, really bad one? It's such a ...

a bit of rag on a stick: March 2009
http://abitofragonastick.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
A bit of rag on a stick. I do have more important things to do you know. Sunday, March 15, 2009. Standing Up For British Satire. The UK media is currently fawning all over The Daily Show, the US satirical news show shown over here on More4. And rightly so - Jon Stewart's masterful, passionate and erudite demolition of CNBC's financial coverage. Is just the latest example of a show which hits its targets in politics and news media with a deadly and hilarious accuracy. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

A bit of rag on a stick. I do have more important things to do you know. Sunday, December 21, 2008. The Ten Worst Tracks of 2008 Numbers 10 to 2. 10 Geraldine - The Winner's Song. In which Peter Kay lines up a fish in a barrel and spectacularly misses. A clumsy parody of X Factor winners, it's neither incisive nor witty, and is therefore no better than the thing it parodies. See also his Christmas follow-up, which controversially implies that Christmas records are a bit repetitive. Oooh, edgy. Love may w...

a bit of rag on a stick: September 2008
http://abitofragonastick.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
A bit of rag on a stick. I do have more important things to do you know. Sunday, September 14, 2008. More Monkey More Problems. For reasons I still can't quite fathom, we settled down to watch Peter Jackson's King Kong. Is he laid across the deck or hung up from the funnel? And the film is full of Peter Jackson's trademark long meaningful looks, giving the whole thing the pace of a tortoise wading through treacle. So the lesson is this: why go out on a Saturday night when you can stay in and get wound up...

a bit of rag on a stick: Oh all right then, I'll do what you tell me
http://abitofragonastick.blogspot.com/2009/12/oh-all-right-then-ill-do-what-you-tell.html
A bit of rag on a stick. I do have more important things to do you know. Sunday, December 20, 2009. Oh all right then, I'll do what you tell me. Tonight at just before 7pm it will be announced that Rage Against The Machine have failed to get the 2009 Christmas Number One. It pains me to say this, but despite the valiant facebook campaign. And the collective moaning of indie kids everywhere, Joe McElderry's The Climb was always going to beat it. Why? Thanks to the Great Non-Record-Buying Public, that's why.
