Purchased in 1806 by William Moorhead, the Finney property formerly was the site of the Moorhead Ferry. Following the death of Moorhead in 1822, John Conrad, Marshall of the United States Treasury Department, was sent to confiscate Moorhead's land and goods as a result of unpaid taxes. The 185 acre property was purchased by Samuel Finney at a public auction for $4,128.00 on July 27, 1822.
