Exploring the world of crochet. Yorkshire, “the wool capital of the world”. Asymp; 4 Comments. Armley Mills Industrial Museum. I’m a fairly new resident of Yorkshire. I knew already that it was the UK’s largest county, renowned for it’s wild countryside and of course the Brontes, but it was only since beginning crochet and purchasing wool from my local shop that I realised how significant the region was in wool production. By the 19th century the Industrial Revolution had swept the country and several Yo...

Turning Hattie | Crochet Eclectics
https://crocheteclectics.wordpress.com/2013/03/10/turning-hattie
Exploring the world of crochet. Asymp; 26 Comments. I am a ‘hattie’ (as in a hat person), crocheted or not, so it’s only natural that I would fast turn to crochet hat making. Initially, I chose one of the easiest patterns. I could find (and understand) and set out to test it using some bargain priced wool I had. This pattern was fast and easy to work in the round with the treble crochet stitch (TC in UK terms), each round ending with a slip stitch, and also provided a nice introduction to changing colours.

Exploring the world of crochet. Asymp; 6 Comments. Now, this post may seem like I’m going backwards in my crochet journey, but in fact having ‘got going’ with crochet, I can now reflect on how easy and inexpensive it was to begin, and by writing this post perhaps inspire someone out there to take up this wonderful hobby. Then here’s what you’ll need:. A wide size range of crochet hooks. I myself went cheap, cheerful and colourful, going for this set of 14 (up to 10mm) for under a fiver. Bargain! The mate...

Exploring the world of crochet. Get set and go! My crochet starter project. Asymp; 6 Comments. So one day I was walking past a local wool shop and all the different wools caught my eye. They looked incredibly beautiful (and colourful), piled sky-high. Next thing I knew, a sudden urge came over me and I purchased a couple of balls; my mind was planning my first project. Of the huge collection of patterns I quickly accumulated, I decided on a pattern I came across in a blog. I felt that this. So, although ...
