The Gourley Adventures

Sunday, May 25, 2014. Last year at this time we were unsure where to go with Elijah's education. He had been in a preschool 2-3 days/week since he was a year old, while I work. His birthday is October 19. He turned 5 in 2O13. The kindergarten cut off age in Virginia is October 1st. Missed it by 18 days. Me: "18 days, really, so those 18 days means he's not ready to read and write? We knew he was ready for kindergarten. He's a smart kid and was ready to work hard to learn more. Well I'm not saying every d...

The Gourley Adventures: SHEETS!!!!

http://www.thegourleyadventures.blogspot.com/2013/03/sheets.html

Thursday, March 28, 2013. A sheets fundraiser. I've never heard of a sheets fundraiser. Why sheets? Well, everyone who owns a bed needs sheets! The best and easiest fundraisers are those where I don't have to convince you that you need something. Everyone needs sheets. These are great sheets! They are VERY soft. They are made of microfiber, which is equal to a 1200 thread count. Microfiber holds its color so you don't need to worry about them fading or losing their softness after multiple washes. It's so...

The Gourley Adventures: September 2013

http://www.thegourleyadventures.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Saturday, September 7, 2013. A Detour- Same Destination. Why am I making this a big announcement? Well, first of all because you all are being incredibly generous with helping get us there and I feel the need to be transparent. Also, because this will likely mean a shorter process. While we had been thinking our wait would be a year or more, we've found a new, smaller agency that has told us to wait 4-6 months for a special needs referral. None of the money fundraised is being lost in this change!

The Gourley Adventures: Saving Money

http://www.thegourleyadventures.blogspot.com/p/saving-money.html

Here's some of the ways we save money, maybe you can get some good ideas too:. 1 Make your food from scratch. I admit I'm not a coupon cutter. I find that I buy ingredients to make food from scratch and most coupons are for already prepared food. I rarely find coupons for the items on my list. We also don't normally get the paper, so to buy the paper I'd have to find what like $2 (? Worth of coupons to even it out or to print coupons takes expensive ink. For me, I'm not sure it's worth it. Sometimes you ...

The McGowan Family's Adventures, from A to Z. July 1, 2012. Middot; by killeenmcg. Middot; in Gratitude. Middot; 2 Comments. This week was a reminder of how all of it can so easily be swept away. How one can go from a very comfortable-seeming life, to almost nothing to her name. Thankfully, they got out just fine. For shock value, here’s what they found when they were finally allowed to return home. Until it happens. To a friend. To family. To me. To you. The Diane and Kitty Paton Fund. Beautifully writt...

I must’ve seen a good ten different articles this week about the fact it’s a problem that Americans are spending too much time behind screens. How it’s terrible that we live virtually through social media and video games. How it’s detrimental to our socialization when we hide behind our phones. So what do we do about it?

Path to Acacia | Our Wall

https://killeenmcgowan.wordpress.com/path-to-acacia

The McGowan Family's Adventures, from A to Z. Path to Acacia came to mean a lot of things over the past two years. Most literally, it was what we dubbed the span of time that it took to have our second daughter, Acacia, join our family. That path wound us through:. I always knew inside of me that I wanted to adopt. Patrick did too. But what did that feeling inside of us look like on the outside? Were we ready to go from being a family of three to a family of four? In the middle of the process, Ethiopia u...

It was cool in the morning, looked like there had been a frost in the night. We made our way over to Smith's where we filled up on go juice.
