The Knitty Gritty Homestead

Thursday, August 13, 2015. Circle of warmth and light. We wake up early. My husband starts a fire while I start the coffee. Pull the breakfast makings from the cooler. Enjoy a quiet moment of sunrise before the kids slowly emerge from their tents, heralded by the buzz of the zipper being opened. I warm milk for them as they awaken, stirring in some hot chocolate powder. They gather around the fire to draw in its warmth and look ahead to the day full of nothing, the day full of everything. Blanket, and tr...

The Knitty Gritty Homestead: farm chores, beach pictures

http://theknittygrittyhomestead.blogspot.com/2015/06/farm-chores-beach-pictures.html

Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Farm chores, beach pictures. Photos by Maureen of Twig and Toadstool. My dear husband faithfully tends to our animals during the winter when I tend to stick a bit close to the wood stove and my knitting. I am so appreciative of that gesture! So, in the summer when I'm home and he continues to go out to work, I take over the chores. I tell him. You'll be big enough then to show them who's boss. And for the pup and make sure their water bowls are replenished, then step inside. July ...

The Knitty Gritty Homestead: March 2015

http://theknittygrittyhomestead.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 30, 2015. Margot skims the "sludge" off the boiling sap. The fruits of the morning's labour. Margot finds a friend. Plink, plink, plink.the drops get faster as the day warms up. My view from the open-air outhouse.see my Dala horse mitts? Sleepy toddler finds a place to lay her head. This one wasn't feeling so well. And this one was just crabby. It hurts a lot when your feet start to thaw after a dip in ice-cold meltwater. The Knitty Gritty Homestead. Thursday, March 26, 2015. Working full t...

The Knitty Gritty Homestead: kitchen table in summer

http://theknittygrittyhomestead.blogspot.com/2015/07/kitchen-table-in-summer.html

Friday, July 31, 2015. Kitchen table in summer. I've nurtured a new habit this summer of completely clearing off the kitchen table every evening before going to bed. It isn't always easy because it is such a hub of activity during the day. This table gradually gets cluttered through the day as various children read here, draw here, snack here, and play games here. Sometimes a friend comes by for lunch. The table is a place to rest and connect, to create and to count our blessings. This week? My daughter ...

The Knitty Gritty Homestead: four, three, two, one

http://theknittygrittyhomestead.blogspot.com/2015/04/four-three-two-one.html

Friday, April 24, 2015. Four, three, two, one. I like to knit whimsical things. I also just like the word "whimsical". There is no more whimsical place that I know of than the home of the Wabi Sabi Wanderer. To photograph whimsical knitting. Could it be more perfect that she found her women folk lined up on a shelf with a wonderful backdrop? My Wabi Sabi friend exclaimed ,"She looks like YOU! You can find a free pattern here. Are so cute, too! And what about these ones? Or, oh my goodness, THIS! This spa...

Calico Hen: pine mulch

http://calicohen.blogspot.com/2012/05/pine-mulch.html

Tuesday, May 15, 2012. I anxiously await the taste of our first strawberry this year. I have switched to pine needle mulch this year as I read that it helps to produce a "wilder" tasting strawberry. And, unlike the straw mulch used in years past, it's free and gathered from our land. Regardless of any taste difference, I will probably proclaim these berries as the sweetest. Posted by Calico Hen. Saturday, July 25, 2015. It was a giant build up getting here. So much anticipation. There was SO MUCH work to do. (As you can imagine! But we did it! The kids worked with me, packing clothes, washing dishes, sitting with sleeping Sam, everyone did their part. Driving here tonight with 5 a friend I said "let's not worry about time, or the clock . Let's just do all the good stuff till we r done.". Fast forward 2 hours, these babies had campfire with s'mores and no mosquitoes and are now quietly breathing.

Sheepish: Who said?

http://sheepish-designs.blogspot.com/2012/05/who-said.html

One mama's chronicle of daily life. Friday, May 11, 2012. This coming from a sentimental mama tonite. Who said that these lovelies could grow up so quickly, and right under this mama's nose? I remember all three of them so clearly. As if it was yesterday that they were freshly on the outside. And the future seemed unnecessary to think of in relation to them and me. These are my girls. And I am their lucky mama. May 18, 2012 at 2:39 PM. What beauties they are! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
