Monday, April 20, 2009. We are going to ARUBA! Jim kept telling me - everything will work out. Now I finally believe him! I got a call this morning, and we have finalized our trip to Aruba thanks to Uncle Bill and Aunt Robyn's timeshare club! The timeshare starts Aug. 28th, so we will be able to use the whole week. That is a fancy name for a person who gets to do research on glaciers. I was up on the Mendenhall Glacier last week for some training and field work. Here are some select photographs. Barley enjoying the view of Chichagof Island and Icy Straight. Our first shrimp pot we pulled had some decent size spot prawns. The view from Swanson Harbor. Swanson Harbor has floating moorage but no land access. We brought along our zodiac to go to shore to cook dinner and walk barley. Notice the floating docks in the background. Jackie and her prawns.

Jackie and Pat's Alaska. Monday, July 8, 2013. Again, we had 85 plus degree weather and sunny, blue skies, making it a hot trip! Bagging up herring for crab bait before the trip. Four Mountain bikes loaded up for the trip- plenty of space! The Eight Fathom Bight cabin. It was built by Icy Straights in Hoonah and barged to the site. It is by far the nicest Forest Service cabin out there, and almost as big as our house! This is Jackie attempting to avoid her face getting eaten. Enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

Sunday, August 30, 2009. After getting in, we had our first meal at the Casino attached to the hotel. We met two Honeymooners from Colorado, who we met up with a couple of more times. It was the first of many surprises of how great the food is here, even at. Little unassuming cafes and restaurants. The fresh baked buns for our burger and awesome onion rings made for a great meal off the plane. I also got my first taste of Balashi, which is a pretty darn good local pilsner. Jackie and Pat's Alaska. Wednesday, January 25, 2012. Jackie and Barley Nordic Ski at the Glacier. Barley and I spent last Saturday afternoon/evening skiing out at the Mendenhall Glacier. Following a week of single digit temperatures, the lake finally froze solid and fresh snow dropped Friday night. After 5 hours of powder skiing at the mountain, we decided to head out to the glacier and give Barley some exercise. Fresh powder nordic skiing. Afternoon sun shining on the glacier.
