Websites I Use | The Rail Life - Rail Tourist

https://theraillife.wordpress.com/websites

The Rail Life – Rail Tourist. A Blog for independant rail tourists. On this page is a list of the main websites I use when planning my journeys and holidays. I am not receiving any payment for writing about them, and they probably don’t even know that I’ve mentioned them. Booking.com ( www.booking.com. Wotif ( www.wotif.com.au. Wotif is where I find accommodation for Australia. They have a good range of hotels (in the major cities, anyway), and the prices are reasonable. Seat 61 ( www.seat61.com. Fill in...

The Rail Life – Rail Tourist. A Blog for independant rail tourists. The Slow Boat to China (Utopia has a Japanese Bath House). March 4, 2015. Check in time for my ferry was from 10:00 for a 12:00 boarding, so left my hotel and walked down to Kokura station to catch a local train to Shimonoseki. Although Shimonoseki is on the island of Honshu, my Northern Kyushu rail pass was valid for the journey. 415 Series EMU at Kokura on a service to Shimonoseki. A 31 Series railcar stands at Shimonoseki station.

https://theraillife.wordpress.com/2015/06/26/trams-of-shenyang

The Rail Life – Rail Tourist. A Blog for independant rail tourists. June 26, 2015. Inside a second class CRH carriage. I left the platform, and found the left luggage office. As I was catching another train from this station that evening, I didn’t want to carry my suitcase around all day. My CRH380 train has just arrived at Shenyang North from Dalian. A CRH380B bullet train stands at Shenyang North station. A three section tram in Shenyang. A close up of a tram charging station. I boarded a route 1 tram ...

High Riser: 17 May 2015

http://highriser.blogspot.com/2015_05_17_archive.html

Saturday, May 23, 2015. It is all a terrible misunderstanding. Blog issues. A great blogmate publishes the same comment twice on my blog. While it has also happened to others, this person is the only one who persistently comments twice. Should I email and tell the person not to comment twice? Of course not, it is an internet/computer thing. The blog writer has not control over it. Blogspot will sort it out, eventually. There was no deliberate intention. It is just how things happen at times in life.

High Riser: 09 August 2015

http://highriser.blogspot.com/2015_08_09_archive.html

Saturday, August 15, 2015. Beating up the missus. One woman is murdered every week in Australia as a result of domestic violence. I understand this year the trend is to two per week. The figure is rising. A hugely disproportionate number of these victims are Aboriginal. The statistics of women with acquired brain injuries as a result of domestic violence is equally damning. Two personal anecdotes, one of which I have recounted before. I can remember Viktor's words vividly. 'You are so beautiful but y...

Saturday, June 20, 2015. The day has nearly dawned. In France to an expensive Singapore hotel. Although this is written in advance, I imagine I will be in a state of mild panic today. A 3.30am start tomorrow. As is my custom, I won't be posting until I return but I will at times read what you have posted and maybe comment. Links to this post. Friday, June 19, 2015. High Riser: Day 22 US, 12/07, NY, Transit Museum, Opinion

http://highriser.blogspot.com/2015/08/day-22-us-1207-ny-transit-museum-opinion.html

Sunday, August 09, 2015. Day 22 US, 12/07, NY, Transit Museum, Opinion. I did not take so many photos this day. I had found there was a public transport museum in Brooklyn, the New York Transit Museum, located at a disused subway station. On board the A train again and to Brooklyn. Entrance to the museum was only $7 and it was quite interesting with plenty of history and interactive stuff for the kiddies, including bigger ones like me. I do like generating electricity. Finally, some protected fans. We wa...

High Riser: 03 May 2015

Saturday, May 09, 2015. Phyl, Ann and myself would be watching Columbo on tv. Phyl will have opened a bottle a beer. As the bottle emptied, her posh voice would mellow and she began to slur her words. She was a good Catholic woman who drank and smoked and confessed her sins at mass on Sunday. He stood and swayed back and forth as he took in the situation, his thought processes slowed by alcohol. "Do you want something Norm? Phyl would ask. With a loud harumph. By the age of 17, she was dead. I receive po...

High Riser: The Goodes

http://highriser.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-goodes.html

Saturday, August 08, 2015. Oh dear, the natives are getting restless. We had better do a bit of smoothing. Tick, done that. So many made an effort to approve one of our indigenous. Good thing, hey. Interesting to me is how vindictive some media commentators have been but don't they have point? This damn boong footballer is acting up and not playing the game as suits us whities. I did not want to believe that the constant booing of Goodes is pure racism. There is something else behind this, I hoped. Gosia...

http://highriser.blogspot.com/2015_06_07_archive.html

Saturday, June 13, 2015. Melbourne from way above. Out of shot is the mouth of the Yarra River, dredged deep enough for the largest ships to enter the river to just past where the winding Maribyrnong River enters the Yarra. This is where ships are unloaded and sometimes even get loaded. The wider water area upstream is Docklands with its many highrise office and apartment buildings. Links to this post. Friday, June 12, 2015. Inspired by a post by John Gray of Wales. Let me be self critical. I often am.

High Riser: 10 May 2015

http://highriser.blogspot.com/2015_05_10_archive.html

Saturday, May 16, 2015. Apparently Johnny Depp has twice been voted the sexiest man alive. As he deplaned upon his arrival in Australia, I just saw a fat arsed old dude, well past his prime. Maybe his clothes were unflattering. There is no doubt he was cute when he was young. I rather liked him back in 21 Jump Street days. What did Patsy say? Buns so tight he was bouncing off the walls. Did Michael Jackson bring his monkeys to Australia? Australia has though cleverly shot the doggie drama (no pun there, ...

Saturday, June 06, 2015. I am almost dying. I tried to blame the lowly paid 711 worker who sneezed into his hand just before he served me, but the incubation period is too long. We both have a common cold, with R a day behind behind me in symptoms. I guess I gave it to him. Is it stretching it to call it man flu? Thank goodness we will be over it before we set off for holidays in a couple of weeks. Links to this post. Friday, June 05, 2015. Historic LA Angels Flight. Los Angles has something historic?
