A service in partnership with. 1 April to 31 Oct, open daily (except Mondays) from 10.00am until 4pm. 1 Nov to 31 March, open daily (except Mondays) from 11am until 3pm. Please note: If you are travelling specially to visit us, please call ahead (01227 367368) to ensure we are open, as we rely on our team of wonderful volunteers to be open. 500 Adult annual pass.
History of the Museum

Return to Home Page. At various times the museum collection was housed in Mortimer Street and then above the Library in the High Street before moving to its William Street premises in 1996, where it was funded and administered by Canterbury City Council, who also own part of the collection. From the outset, the Museum has hosted a changing exhibitions programme in its special exhibition gallery, including national touring exhibitions as well as local art and photography.

The Red Rover was the first ship commissioned by The Herne Bay Steam Packet Company, built in 1835. She was one of two steam packets, the other being The City of Canterbury , that were generally acknowledged to be the fastest on the river. Twice a day they sailed from London Bridge to Herne Bay Pier, a trip lasting about 5 hours and covering a distance by water of around 65 miles.
