The SJBlog: July 2006

http://www.thesjblog.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, July 26, 2006. The fatty tuna I ate last night looked like Spam. Except imagine twice the fat, such that the tuna meat separated into what looked like mini slices of Spam. If I closed my eyes and asked my dinner companion to distract me with inane rambling, I could stomach it. It just tasted like tuna, but fattier. However, with my eyes open, it was one of the least appetizing $5 pieces of fish I've ever seen, much less eaten. Posted by SJB at 9:56 PM. Wednesday, July 19, 2006. The fact that B...

Yes, in my mind, watching La furia. S run-up to the copa. Was in-depth cultural research, accompanied by beer. And now I can toss off the relevant names - Iker, Xavi, Pedro, David Villa, Iniesta, Del Bosque, etc. etc. - like a pro. Day #36: Cleaned out old grad school papers, and remembered how much fun that Galdós class was. Not.

The SJBlog: May 2006

http://www.thesjblog.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 28, 2006. Last weekend, as Dad and I crossed the Bay to Breakers finish line at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, we came upon a a figure so familiar to me I knew exactly what his next three words would be: "Happy, happy, happy." Yes, it was the Happy Happy Happy man. And then today, I was doing some work in Au Coquelet, when I noticed another fixture on the Berkeley campus - Yoshua man. Sitting at the table behind me. He was quietly highlighting his Bible, and taking miniscule notes on a scr...

The SJBlog: Is this really December?

http://www.thesjblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/is-this-really-december.html

Tuesday, December 21, 2010. Is this really December? Two-at-a-time is de rigour at McSorley's Ale House. Any month that starts out like this is going to have to be good. Days #192-196: A fruitful research trip to New York City. Forayed into the Columbia University library, attended a conference on photojournalism during the Spanish Civil War at NYU, checked out the related and fascinating "Mexican Suitcase" exhibit at the International Photography Center. Day #199: Watched Almodóvar's Kika. An article is...
