We prepared for snow, tire-chains and all, but ended up hiking in 50 degree breezes with sunny blue skies. We lived in LA. Wait, what? I love muted earth tones. March 16, 2015. The desert in Joshua Tree National Park is just painted in subtle color. Love it. In late October, we car-camped in J-Tree for a few days at Jumbo Rocks (our fave) and Ryan campgrounds. You can easily see the whole park in a weekend. Bring Chacos – they grip the rocks super well. Fancy meeting you here! Our paths split here. Top of the 5 mile climb. We met up with one additional teammate for the fleche (Ryan), and prepped bikes for the following day.
