I'm thinking of starting a blog...: Love is all you need

http://thinkingofstartingablog.blogspot.com/2015/04/love-is-all-you-need.html

Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Love is all you need. Sometimes light bulb moments come from unexpected sources. Who would have thought a politician could leave a lasting impression on the way I view disability? Most Australians will remember former politician Kim Beazley. I don't remember much about his politics, but I do remember that when he retired it was also reported in the media that his brother had died. His much loved brother - who happened to have an intellectual disability. Would they be unhappy?

Murray is still intubated and on the ventilator. Apparently his chest Xray looked better again today so that is good. The bad news . Wellits be...

Not sure yet of severity - most recent assessment (Griffiths) "moderate - severe developmental delay". Due to acute cortical necrosis. I'm thinking of starting a blog...: In the beginning...

http://thinkingofstartingablog.blogspot.com/p/in-beginning.html

For those who are new to the blog, here is the story of 'how we got here'. In 2004, after our first IVF attempt and an uneventful pregnancy, our first daughter Emma was born - a big, fat healthy baby who continues to be typical in every way - except perhaps for her fascination with toilet humour. So what does that mean? I felt like I asked that a lot. Of support from the ventilator and things were looking very grim. My high risk OB even came up to visit me on the ward to say how sorry he was that thi...

I'm thinking of starting a blog...: Zoo Review

http://thinkingofstartingablog.blogspot.com/2015/05/zoo-review.html

Sunday, May 3, 2015. During the school holidays my sister and I took the girls to Roar and Snore at Taronga Zoo. The staff were incredibly helpful and went out of their way to make sure we could participate in the entire experience - I can't say enough about how great they were. It did help that one of our hosts was Ashlea's awesome school teacher's just as awesome daughter (did you follow that? Awesome Zoo Host helping Ashlea. Nice kitty, soft kitty. A (Long) Word on Accessibility. Sadly at best I can o...

The amazing Miss M: March 2011

http://amazingmiss-m.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

The amazing Miss M. An insight into the life of a beautiful little girl, who happens to have been born deaf, and the family who love and adore her. Wednesday, March 16, 2011. 18 month post implant. OK, so I am a terrible blogger. I think that it is because I don't feel that I have anything interesting to say. I am also generally unmotivated at the moment. I'm doing a photo-a-day project, and that maxes out my energy most days. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Deaf Child Behind The Wheel. Big Red Kidney Walk.

The amazing Miss M. An insight into the life of a beautiful little girl, who happens to have been born deaf, and the family who love and adore her. Tuesday, September 27, 2011. 2 years post assessment. So, I got Matilda's assessment report in the mail today. I had already been given the standard scores, but I like seeing the age equivalents as it gives me a better idea of how things are going. Here are the results (chronological age is 2 years 7 months):. Auditory comprehension - 2 years 11 months. Big R...

The amazing Miss M: June 2012

http://amazingmiss-m.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

The amazing Miss M. An insight into the life of a beautiful little girl, who happens to have been born deaf, and the family who love and adore her. Friday, June 29, 2012. The amazing Miss M strikes again. Little Miss M's ears are still not quite big enough to keep her processors on without assistance. I've been getting a little bored of her lace headbands, so I found some sequined ribbon in the fabric store a few weeks back and created these little numbers. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Outrageous Fortune: Adventures in Hippotherapy

http://www.outrageousfortune.net/2014/04/adventures-in-hippotherapy.html

Monday, April 28, 2014. You might think hippotherapy is some bizarre form of exercise with highly dangerous two-ton water cows. You would be wrong. Even though it is not called equi. Therapy, it has to do with horses. Some kind of Latin thing. If only the Romans were around to explain. Malachi having the time of his life on said horse! He absolutely loved it! Did the therapist inadvertently do something wrong? Where is Caracas again? What kind of demented mind came up with that? It took us four weekly vi...

Outrageous Fortune: Diagnosis Day: Shattered expectations

http://www.outrageousfortune.net/2011/03/diagnosis-day-shattered-expectations.html

Sunday, March 20, 2011. Diagnosis Day: Shattered expectations. I always enjoyed the first class of the term. I would sit there — be it in a class of 15 or 200 — and look at the teacher with a clean slate. This teacher didn’t yet know me from any of the other students in the class. This teacher couldn’t yet tell that I would be one of his or her best students. It’s arrogant to say that, I know, but that doesn’t make it untrue. I graduated from college with higher. 8220;I want you. 8220;Fix it.”. There was...

Outrageous Fortune: Seeing the breast half full

http://www.outrageousfortune.net/2011/04/seeing-breast-half-full.html

Saturday, April 09, 2011. Seeing the breast half full. My breastmilk and what I came to call my "yellow, plastic triplet.". It's hard to remember what I thought about breastfeeding before I became pregnant. I think it went something like this: "My mom breastfed me and I'm awesome, so I'll breastfeed my kids and then they'll be awesome. Great idea! After I got pregnant I read books like La Leche League's " The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. Be easy. Some day. Right? Therapist) said that she's seeing a lot ...

Outrageous Fortune: Shasta: The Return to Journalism

http://www.outrageousfortune.net/2014/07/shasta-return-to-journalism.html

Wednesday, July 09, 2014. Shasta: The Return to Journalism. Life can change so quickly. Little more than a month ago, I was a stay-at-home mom, and seemed destined to stay that way at least until the kids went to full-time school. Tired, drained and pulled in a million directions, I was ready to quit my tiny freelance reporting gig — because: who am I kidding? There's no way I'm getting my career in print news back. And it was true. And I love it. It's just really not for me. Is this my life? Don't get m...

Outrageous Fortune: How to Answer the Screen Time Challenge (Especially with Challenged Kids)

http://www.outrageousfortune.net/2014/04/how-to-answer-screen-time-challenge.html

Thursday, April 17, 2014. How to Answer the Screen Time Challenge (Especially with Challenged Kids). Screen Time" is a BFD in our house. Episodic wars are fought over it throughout the day, every day. Limiting young children's exposure to technology is difficult in most households, but when you have a child who requires a whole lot of assistance to do much else, it's nearly impossible. During our medical trip to New York. And I know that lots of people. That said, I do think that limiting screen time:.

Outrageous Fortune: How to Make a Medicine Spreadsheet Chart on Excel

http://www.outrageousfortune.net/2014/04/how-to-make-medicine-spreadsheet-chart.html

Tuesday, April 29, 2014. How to Make a Medicine Spreadsheet Chart on Excel. OK, I admit it. I have trouble remembering to give Malachi his medicine. Even when I do, later I don't remember whether or not I actually did give it to him. Part of this has to do with the fact that his medicines are in liquid form so those cool pill cases don't work for us. Add to the mix a few more caregivers and things get pretty confusing. Here's what you do to make one of your own in about 5 minutes:. 8212; click on that ce...

Outrageous Fortune: Policies

http://www.outrageousfortune.net/p/full-disclosure.html

Yes, it's true. I am the eleventy-five billionth person to try to make money by giving content away for free on the Internet. Since that makes me an uncomfortable marriage of reporter-photographer-editor-publisher-ad rep, I'm telling you here exactly what that means in the hopes that you won't feel hoodwinked in any way. Well, not you. Of course, since you. Are very media-savvy, so what I really mean is that other guy. You know the one. He's such an idiot. So, here's how I make money. You can post anonym...
