The Hayes

Saturday, June 29, 2013. Trip to the Wild West - Days 6 thru 9. Day 6: Virginia City. We visited the old mining town of Virginia City which was only about 15 minutes away. The buildings made great photo opps. This one is Joel's debut as a photographer. Not bad! We walked around the town and then road a little train to the next little mining town a few miles down the road. After enjoying a delicious lunch, we rode the train back and joined. Grandpa and Grandma for ice cream at the creamery. After leaving ...

The Hayes: Trip to the Wild West - Days 3, 4, & 5

http://www.timhayesfamily.blogspot.com/2013/06/trip-to-wild-west-days-3-4-5.html

Saturday, June 29, 2013. Trip to the Wild West - Days 3, 4, and 5. Day 3: Hiking, Custer State Park, and Drive to Montana. After we packed up all of our stuff, we left the cabin and drove on Needles Highway to Custer State Park. The boys loved this drive! There were a couple of crazy tunnels, and we got out to hike a bit. Custer State Park was beautiful, but we only saw a little bit of the wildlife . . . and I will refrain from re-posting the most exciting picture of the day again. Day 4: Arrive in Ennis.

Monday, October 24, 2011. Pumpkin Patch and Josiah's Dedication. If you read my last post, I don't want to leave you feeling down. :) Our house may be a mess, but it has forced us to spend more time outside! This past weekend, we went to the KC Pumpkin Patch. So we never really made it to the actual pumpkin patch, but the boys had a great time with all the other activities there. Josiah's name means "The Lord Helps" and his life verse is Psalm 37:39-40. Because they take refuge in him.". I guess I'll jus...

Saturday, December 22, 2012. Levi had a few Christmas snacks . . . Josiah and his "helpers". Tim looks super excited about his present. You can almost feel the anticipation radiating from everyone. Joel picked these out for me, hid them, and then wrapped them by himself. I had no idea what he got me until today. And yes . . . I will wear them. :). Caleb got Dadda a flashlight and made him a special card. Joel lost his FIRST tooth eating cinnamon rolls for breakfast! First pic without a tooth. Phil tossed...

Sunday, December 11, 2011. I thought it would be fun to make gingerbread houses this year . . . that is until I attempted to put them together today. I quickly realized that the assembly part is not one of my gifts and passed over the job to Tim. I guess all his caulking experience really came in handy on this one. Here is my cheesy husband working on assembling the houses. Joel is super excited about decorating his house. Here is Joel's first version. Lick off the icing, and redecorate their houses again.

One girl among a bunch of boys: March 2013

http://onegirlamongabunchofboys.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 29, 2013. Eleven years ago today, I married this guy who is an avid sports fan. A serious lover of KU basketball. And he married me during the NCAA basketball tournament. A year that Kansas lost in the Final Four. While we were on our honeymoon. On a cruise ship, in the southern Caribbean. This was before WiFi was everywhere. The tournament schedule was to-be-announced when we chose our wedding date, but Bryan had to have known that he'd miss the entire last week of games. And I know he was...

One girl among a bunch of boys: October 2012

http://onegirlamongabunchofboys.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 28, 2012. My mother would have been 66 tomorrow. October has been a difficult month for me for as long as I can remember, as every year I ached from the pains of not having the relationship I'd wanted with her. The pain this year is different. I'm missing her - just as I had for so many years - but now there's the added ache of finality. Finality on earth, anyway. Directly west of a park I know from my childhood. And I know her high school was just up the street . I ran past it! When I tu...

One girl among a bunch of boys: June 2013

http://onegirlamongabunchofboys.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 15, 2013. This was my third year teaching Zach's class at VBS. There are about 110 kids in his grade, and in the past these kids were divided into 4 or 5 classes. This year, they were divided into two. I LOVED THE BIGGER CLASS! Having been at the church for 10 years, at the boys' elementary school for 4 years, and being a small group leader in Zach's Sunday school class for the last year, I knew about half of the kids in our class personally. This was such a blessing! I love these kids.

One girl among a bunch of boys: My sons: "God's Word makes me feel loved."

http://onegirlamongabunchofboys.blogspot.com/2013/06/my-sons-gods-word-makes-me-feel-loved.html

Saturday, June 8, 2013. My sons: "God's Word makes me feel loved.". I love the time we get in the summer. I love plugging into my family without distraction. Love LOVE. LOVE! And I love this book. It is rocking my world! It is the perfect companion to my heart's desire to be intentional in all things. Confession: I have not read the entire Bible. Until 10 years ago, I didn't actually know that all those kids' Bible stories I'd heard when young were actually in the Bible. That dude was AWESOME. I told the...

One girl among a bunch of boys: Blessed...on our birthday and always

http://onegirlamongabunchofboys.blogspot.com/2013/05/blessedon-our-birthday-and-always.html

Saturday, May 18, 2013. Blessed.on our birthday and always. However, this year I really wanted to do something that focused solely on Bryan and would bless his socks off. I knew he'd love a date night with his closest friends. And I knew he'd love one restaurant in particular. So, I sent the invite.and waited a few weeks before calling the restaurant. Bad idea. Bad. When I called four days in advance, they were already booked for Friday night. You can see how experienced I am at this. As the vase says&#4...

One girl among a bunch of boys: January 2013

http://onegirlamongabunchofboys.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 31, 2013. I grew up on ice skates. Thought I'd compete at the Olympics. I really wish I had a picture to insert here. Imagine nine year old me, in my favorite yellow skirt and brand new white Riedell ice skates. But they were legends when I was a kid. They were the things my little girl dreams were made of. Still, we had a blast. And I have a great imagination. I totally think I should take skating lessons again. Clearly my kids need to. The teams are assigned in such a way that the goa...

One girl among a bunch of boys: February 2013

http://onegirlamongabunchofboys.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Friday, February 22, 2013. We woke up around 6am yesterday to dry ground, with the promise of snowfall that we'd talk about for years to come. By 7am, white stuff was falling from the sky. By 7:30, it was accumulating. Snow was falling at a rate of 2-3" per hour. Lightning could be seen, thunder heard. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it before. The weathermen were calling it thundersnow. By 9am, it was really piling up on our deck. We measured 12" in the driveway. We're having a blast. I'd tol...

One girl among a bunch of boys: Getting closer to a Shrader Family 5K

http://onegirlamongabunchofboys.blogspot.com/2013/05/getting-closer-to-shrader-family-5k.html

Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Getting closer to a Shrader Family 5K. The boys ran their first 5K on April 20, 2013. I'd expected that we'd start and finish together, and in between there would be some sprinting, walking, whining, sitting, and even a little crying. I was right and wrong. I could totally relate to my guy's nerves. I love that Luke always wears these gloves backwards. The design you're seeing is the rubber non-skid surface meant to be on the palms! He prefers for it to be decoration.). Zach sprin...
