Here's some basic river terms for all you wanna be river rats. ABREAST. side by side, even with. ADRIFT. floating free, not moored, loose. AFT toward, at ,or near the stern; behind a vessel. AFTER WATCH. the twelve to six shift on a boat, headed by the pilot. AGROUND. afloat but resting partially on the bottom. AHEAD toward the bow; forward; in a forward direction; in front of. Naturally, it depends upon what type of vessel - your modeling, but as a rule, most any type of vessel will have the following typical types of light systems! Here is a listing of navigation lights on board towboats. 2 amber lights placed vertically 3' apart. Amber flashes with sounding of horn. 2 vertical white lights atop pilot house. Clear, can be adjusted from pilot house. 2 white lights, one placed on jack staff amidships and one forward on pilot house. Typical deck lamps, referred to as GUARD.

The EMD engines clip was recorded while we were fighting heavy cross winds coming out of lock 52. Normal cruising speed is around 9 to 12 mph running 180 rpm on the shafts.
