A Blog of Proustian Proportions: September 2010
http://proustianproportions.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
A Blog of Proustian Proportions. Sunday, 5 September 2010. A Llandilo by any other name. Last weekend I went to a place completely new and yet familiar to me. It was a town I grew up in, and yet I had never been there before. All of the houses and the shops and the signs filled me with nostalgia, yet the memories they brought back were based somewhere entirely different. Confused? Llandeilo has a town hall! And, bizarrely, Llandeilo has a luxurious boutique hotel. Labels: bathtubs full of photos. Lindsay...

The Gun in the First Act. It'll go off in the third. Wednesday, October 21, 2009. TIFF Part Six: Bitch Slap Review. I hope you all feel special, because you are. To me. The reason for mentioning the assets (boobsets? Of these women is because this is the purpose of the film. These three women have a scheme, a hostage, secrets, and a penchant for sex and violence. 8217;s Zoe Bell, is quite good, the editing is too choppy to appreciate it. But when the purpose of the film is its loudness, this must be ...

The Gun in the First Act: TIFF Part Four: The Loved Ones Review
http://guninthefirstact.blogspot.com/2009/10/tiff-part-four-loved-ones-review.html
The Gun in the First Act. It'll go off in the third. Sunday, October 4, 2009. TIFF Part Four: The Loved Ones Review. I'm on holiday; leave me alone. It was, of course, not the first Australian horror movie – it wasn’t even the first of this decade – but Greg McLean’s Wolf Creek. Was a lot of fun; Storm Warning. Had some intensity. On the whole, however, the films have ranged from adequate to appalling. Enter Sean Byrne, and The Loved Ones. No Australian horror film since Wolf Creek. This film - rightly s...

The Gun in the First Act: June 2009
http://guninthefirstact.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
The Gun in the First Act. It'll go off in the third. Tuesday, June 30, 2009. Hacked to the Rafters. Oh yes. The puns keep on coming. Packed to the Rafters. The Australian dramedy, was one of my favourite punching bags of last year. Largely because, despite being labelled as such, it contained neither dram, nor edy. Worst of all, however: it's called Packed to the Rafters. To the uninitiated, this might seem inoffensive enough. A bit of a cliche, perhaps, but a title's a title. It's about a family named.

A Blog of Proustian Proportions: Slovenia and the Fear of Squished Mitsubishis

A Blog of Proustian Proportions. Sunday, 9 May 2010. Slovenia and the Fear of Squished Mitsubishis. I eventually snailed my way into the outside lane, trying to act as if I wasn’t embarrassed about how panic-stricken I felt. After a few kilometres of motorway, the fireworks stopped exploding in my veins, and the thoughts ‘get out of here! On the way to the coast, we stopped at a massive castle built into the side of a cliff:. Predjama Castle, Slovenia. And went on a tour of the UNESCO-listed. I don’...

The Gun in the First Act: August 2009
http://guninthefirstact.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
The Gun in the First Act. It'll go off in the third. Monday, August 31, 2009. This will be brief, non movie or TV related, and (mostly) rant-free. I'm leaving the country tomorrow, until early October. The purpose of the trip is the Toronto International Film Festival, but will also feature appearances from Portland, Vancouver, Montreal, Chicago and San Fransisco. Plus due to funds Toronto will be also, largely, about actually. Is on, and George Romero will be there. Also playing is Jennifer's Body.
