Van Down By the River. Saturday, February 24, 2007. Paint: Mexico's Favorite Color. Crossing over the Sea of Cortez has introduced us to a Mexico even more vibrant with culture and scenery, along with my quarter-century notch. It's strange passing into the title of mid-20s without sharing a birthday cake with my lil bro and easy access to a phone connected to loved ones, thanks everyone for the well wishes. Van Down By the River. Monday, January 29, 2007. In the Desert, You can't remember your name. After all the anticipation, master planning, and wild last-minute weapon stashes, we finally are lucky enough to experience the "Real Mexico." Layers of sandy dust now coat everything we own, thus christening Guntero as Baja-worthy. Amid the saggy chi-chi dogs (don't pet them), cowboys on ATVs, and dusty children on bikes there lies a surprising diversity in both the landscape and people of Baja. Secondly we add...

Van Down By the River. Friday, March 30, 2007. After basking in the glow of our warmed egos, Joe and I were lucky enough to catch the beautiful city of Antigua, Guatemala, in the festivities leading up to its most beloved holiday: Easter, or Holy Week. Posted by Van Down By The River at 8:51 AM. Monday, March 26, 2007. Ahhh, our self-serving guilt trip successfully squeezed comments out of our loyal readers. Van Down By the River. Thursday, June 07, 2007. Besides being a bit jaded, what it really comes down to is we miss the family and friends that allow us to feel. We miss celebrating successes, supporting in hard times, and just some good old-fashioned hanging out with familiar faces. There! Oh yeah. These are a bunch of pictures of ruins and charming colonial cities in Mexico. You should visit them some day. Posted by Van Down By The River at 3:56 PM. Van Down By the River. Friday, June 22, 2007. Back to Mama Ocean. Despite our brief period of feeling "beached out" on the Caribbean side, our return to the Pacific is like returning to the warm, wet embrace of an old friend (did that sound gross? To avoid sounding redundant, as this is repeat territory, I will give the gift of the random tidbit. Posted by Van Down By The River at 10:52 AM. Omg, i MUST have that yellow cape! Remembering Joey ...: June 2009

http://johnsonsmauiohana.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 11, 2009. In the end everything will be all right, nothing can harm you permanently; no loss is lasting, no defeat more than transitory, no disappointment is conclusive. Suffering, failure, loneliness, sorrow, discouragement and death will be part of your journey, but the kingdom of God will conquer all of these horrors. No evil can resist grace forever.". Remembering Joey ...: The Brief Journey Of Life

http://johnsonsmauiohana.blogspot.com/2009/05/brief-journey-of-life.html

Friday, May 22, 2009. The Brief Journey Of Life. Our days on earth are like a shadow. I Chronicles 29:15 NIV. He who "lives forever" has placed himself at the head of a band of pilgrims who mutter, "How long O Lord, how long? How long must I endure this sickness? How long must I endure this spouse? How long must I endure this paycheck? Do you really want God to answer? But he seldom does that. He usually opts to measure the here and the now. Against the there and then;. And when you compare this. In Memo...

A Life Extraordinary: Threads of Hope

http://mandadorough.blogspot.com/p/threads-of-hope.html

My life seems to be filled with fundraisers these days, but this one is truly special. This family. He could see that they were living in desperate conditions and deeply wanted to help but he knew they wouldn't take it without giving something in return. So he told them he wanted $100 worth of bracelets and he would pick them up the next time he visited. When he came back they presented him with 1300 bracelets! So why am I selling them? I committed to the World Race knowing that this was so much bigger t...

A Life Extraordinary: Exploring Portland

http://mandadorough.blogspot.com/2011/03/exploring-portland.html

Sunday, March 13, 2011. Growing up in Seattle, Portland was always our friendly neighbor to the south. I would drive through it on my way to hear, again on my way to there. In fact I've past through Portland at least 2 dozen times, but I never actually stopped in Portland and I thought there was no time like the present for this to be remedied. Walking down the street the first interesting item we came upon were tons of "food trucks." So much good food and tons of Thai food! We're almost in the door!

Monday, October 31, 2011. Greetings From the Land of One Week Early. What have I been up to these last few months? My World Race adventures began in Ecuador. Where I straddled the fake Equator. Then found a home in a small farming town called Conocoto. We worked hard 5 days a week building a church. But still found time to enjoy our off days in Quito. We even made new friends in the park. Our last weekend we journeyed high into the Andes rainforests to hike. Next we were off to Peru. Our first day we eve...

A Life Extraordinary: Semester at Sea

http://mandadorough.blogspot.com/p/semester-at-sea.html

My freshman year of college I became a little obsessed. Somehow, I had come across the Semester at Sea website. It was amazing. A semester of college, on a ship, traveling the world! Um, yes please. I watched the video over and over again. I tell you, I was obsessed, and I shared it with everyone I knew. I had visions of myself on a Safari in Africa and climbing the great wall of china. I even went so far as to plan the trips I would take. Fast Forward to the future. I want to be able to aid in the prepa...

Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Are you still there? Knock, knock, knock. Hello is anyone there? Apparently not me since my last post was months ago! Since then I've roadtripped from Denver to NC and back for World Race Training camp in eastern TN and it was amazing. I have a great squad and a great team! Then, after I got back I quit my job, cleaned, packed and right now I'm sitting in the Miami airport waiting to catch a flight to the first country of my race, Ecuador! And I am so excited!

These two factors helped me and a group of friends decide to spend our two week October break in 2008 visiting Nepal and hiking the fabled Everest Trail. Day 1: Fly from Bangkok to Dhaka (overnight in Bangladesh). Day 2: Fly from Dhaka to Kathmandu. Day 4: Hike from Phakding to Namche Bazaar. Day 8: Hike from Dingbo...

Sunday, April 12, 2009. 1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,. 3 He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, [ a. I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

home: Genealogy of the family van Dort

TV Special by Omroep Brabant about painter Willem van Dort Sr (in Dutch). The family van Dort from The Netherlands is probably not one family. It is more likely that several families moved away from Dordrecht, also called Dordt, at a certain period of time. When they settled down in a new city they were called van Dort, which could mean from Dordt or from Dordrecht. In the Netherlands of the 17th century people with the name van Dort could be found in various cities: Bergen op Zoom and Rotterdam. The Ber...
