Welcome to Vietnam Bird News. Bird news from Vietnam, from Vietnam's resident and visiting birders. Northern Boobook on passage / Hanoi - 25 April 2014. During an afternoon stroll at Bai Da near the Red River/Hanoi in search of the famous Silver Oriole seen by Florian, I flushed an owl at close range, roosting a few meters amid the thick foliage of a small tree. After 30 minutes or so of hide and seek I finally managed to put my bins on it and immediately recognized a Northern Boobook. Less white on face).

Welcome to Vietnam Bird News. Bird news from Vietnam, from Vietnam's resident and visiting birders. Chinese Penduline Tits at Hanoi. Today (31th December) was one of those days that makes me grateful to be a regular patchworker. There is always something new to see, something new to learn, and sometimes a great surprise around the corner. Part of a small party (ca 5 ind.) busily exploring reedbeds. This species is recorded in Robson for East Tonkin, as vagrant. May you see wonderful birds in 2015! PS : r...

Welcome to Vietnam Bird News. Bird news from Vietnam, from Vietnam's resident and visiting birders. A few good birds from Hanoi. We've been spoiled by several weeks of great weather, the kind that makes it hard to stay inside and work. But this winter is one that definitely will not go down in Hanoi birding history. The unusually warm weather (but also dry and sunny, which did not displease me…) has kept wintering bird numbers down. Local Masked Laughingthrush (still alive, quite amazing! A presumably fe...

Welcome to Vietnam Bird News. Bird news from Vietnam, from Vietnam's resident and visiting birders. Green Pigeon and Thrushes in the city. I have grabbed a couple of brief opportunities to get out in the last few days. At the Botanical Gardens good sightings of Thrushes with Orange-headed T., Blue-Whistling T. and White-throated Rock T. But the highlight was a Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon, my first Green Pigeon in the city! Unfortunately it was perched very high in a fig tree and I only got some poor shots.
