Four days in Hong Kong - travelogue with photos

http://wanderingdanny.com/hong-kong

We had four days in Hong Kong on our way to Europe. We saw bits of Hong Kong island and Kowloon, with one trip out to Lantau island. Arrival in Hong Kong - Wan Chai. Central Hong Kong on a Sunday morning. Tsim Sha Tsui - art and electronics. Markets, museums a temple. Just the Hong Kong photos. Yue Man Square Rest Garden. Lantau island giant buddha. June is not the best time to visit Hong Kong: it was hot and steamy. We had November and April recommended to us as the best months.

New Zealand South Island. Kaikoura, Marlborough, Nelson, Kahurangi, Lewis Pass. Thumbnails link to larger images. An albatross taking off. This trip turned into something of a wildlife extravaganza. In Christchurch we visited the zoo; in Kaikoura we went swimming with dolphins and cruising with ocean birds; we encountered weka and weta in Kahurangi National Park; and we visited the gannet colony at Farewell Spit. Camilla attends a phylogenetics conference. Mt Fyffe - Kowhai Saddle.

Why is Venice so attractive a city? - Oxford Blog

http://wanderingdanny.com/oxford/2013/07/why-is-venice-so-attractive-a-city

Kettler Spirit city bike - first impressions / review. Handedly handling the baby. Why is Venice so attractive a city? 8212; July 2013. The Grand Canal is its greatest attraction, but the reason Venice is such a fun city to explore is not the canals but the complete absence of cars. Mdash; and also of motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, and scooters, though we did encounter some prams and the occasional wheel-chair — which are relegated to giant parking stations where the causeway to the mainland starts.

Money + Materialism - ethical investment + sustainability in Australia

http://danny.id.au/money

Ethical Investment Sustainability in Australia. In which I document my experience as a capitalist roader. Though only Norway meets it, there's a nominal target of 0.7% of GNP for foreign aid contributions by rich nations. That also seems like a reasonable minimum level for charitable giving by rich individuals. The charities I've given money to include Oxfam Australia. Largely because of my historical connection with them, working as a volunteer on their website), AidWatch. I live in medium-density housi...

WanderingDan's Weblog | Just another WordPress.com weblog

Here we go againnot too surprising (knowing me). March 6, 2014, 6:58 am. Why does the inner gypsy rebel? Freedom…the corporate nature of my job and the spatial necessity of living on a small floating town of iron…both combine to take away the one thing I cannot live without, all other factors aside…freedom. So now is the time to ask many questions…ponder answers…conceive of possibilities. Endure for the sake of commitment and income potential, while my soul slowly dies? Follow my ambition, come what may?

The whole universe is yours darling and may you explore every beach, climb every mountain, touch as many lives and never lose the naughtiness in your spirit. We will always be there to hold you when you need comfort, pick you up and walk beside you every step but my darling, you will have to lead the way. Be independent and never let anyone hold you back. Lots of love,. January 15, 2014.

June 29, 2013. Reposted from kenleilenae.com. A unique mixture of musty marble and salty air permeate the senses before rounding the corner to the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco. The building is not quite in sight yet, but the elongated shadow of the structure reaches for you to announce the approach of midday prayers. And finally, you see it. Towering 689 feet into the heavens, the mosque’s minaret acts as a beacon for the Moroccan coast. This is a place of community, worship and serenity.
