Some of Fothergill's Buildings. Ken Brand in Get to Know Nottingham: Watson Fothergill. Watson Fothergill was a prolific architect, designing over a hundred buildings during his working life. Below are just some of his buildings that survive today. It is intended to add to this list with further pictures and information over the coming months. Woodborough Road, St. Ann's, Nottingham. The church had a Sunday school with a separate entrance. Carved stones commemorate the worthies who founded the church.

Sadly, many of Fothergills works did not survive through the developments of the late 1960s and early 1970s. At a time when Gothic Victorian architecture was considered vulgar, tasteless and ugly, his work was not greatly valued. The redevelopment and wholesale moderisation and improvement of Nottingham led to the destruction of many of his buildings at that time. 7 Mapperley Road, Nott'm. Fothergill and his family lived here until his death in 1928, when the house was sold. Long Row, Nottingham.

Watson Fothergill - A Brief Life History. Fothergill left school at the age of 15 in 1856 and became a trainee with Frederick Jackson, Civil Engineer, Architect and Surveyor, Nottingham. Jackson was also a friend of Fothergill Watson's late father and executor for Watson senior's will. It is thought that Fothergill may have worked on the plans of Nottingham that were published by Jackson in 1861. Clients over his career.
