When to do it. Slowly walk up to the top of Snowdon. This can be done very early in the morning (ideally in the dark), or on the evening before the challenge. There is an area for camping or bivvying that is normally fairly sheltered near the summit. Start the walk as soon as it gets light (the walk begins on Snowdon's summit). When to do it. When to do it. The Welsh 3000s Challenge is not an organised race or event. It is generally undertaken by individuals or groups of friends who decide on an appropriate date for themselves. Most people walk it as close to the 22nd June as possible. This gives the maximum amount of light, but is before the temperature starts to get too high. At this time of year sunrise is about 5am and sunset is about 10pm. When to do it. The Welsh 3000s Challenge. In order to complete the Welsh 3000s Challenge you are required to have been at the top of all 15 of the mountains over 3000 ft in Wales within the space of 24 hours, without using any form of transport.
