out on the big limb: February 2015
http://outonthebiglimb.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Out on the big limb. Warning: this is one of those blogs that goes all over the place. Poems, politics, gripes, praise. A little of everything from an avowed generalist. Saturday, February 28, 2015. Turns out that yesterday was International Polar Bear Day. If it weren't for those video news blats the Internet providers love to insert, I'd never have even known it. And I somehow doubt that many others would have either. To the poem below, expressing some of my concerns about this mysterious creature.

out on the big limb: The Way of the Raspberry (and other berries)

Out on the big limb. Warning: this is one of those blogs that goes all over the place. Poems, politics, gripes, praise. A little of everything from an avowed generalist. Sunday, June 28, 2015. The Way of the Raspberry (and other berries). Picking raspberries allows one the time to do nothing more than look and move one's hand. Such simple, repetitive motions - hand to berry, to bucket, to bush again - allow time for contemplation, almost meditation. Would say, futile. Already, so many berries have gone i...

out on the big limb: The House that Birdie Built

Out on the big limb. Warning: this is one of those blogs that goes all over the place. Poems, politics, gripes, praise. A little of everything from an avowed generalist. Thursday, July 23, 2015. The House that Birdie Built. We have a bird living with us this summer. Earlier, she tried building a nest on a ledge in the gazebo, but that one didn't work out. This time she's taken up lodging in behind a potted begonia. I can only surmise that Birdie must have been watching decorator shows on tv. 03 August &#...

out on the big limb: April 2015

Out on the big limb. Warning: this is one of those blogs that goes all over the place. Poems, politics, gripes, praise. A little of everything from an avowed generalist. Sunday, April 26, 2015. I'm afraid that's where I've been this month, especially in terms of this poor little blog - off the rails. Off in too many directions, doing workshops, attending readings and art openings - all good things, but lacking in focus. Links to this post. Wednesday, April 01, 2015. Because April is National Poetry Month.

Out on the big limb. Warning: this is one of those blogs that goes all over the place. Poems, politics, gripes, praise. A little of everything from an avowed generalist. Tuesday, September 30, 2014. I've been staring at this autumny tree, trying to take in some of its calmness. It's been kind of a crazy month - not one to complain about - nearly all of it happy-making, culminating in this weekend's Word Vancouver. Still, I'm ready for a less hectic time. Links to this post. Monday, September 15, 2014.

And they call it the 'safe' way? I've always wondered why they call our supermarket the Safeway. And for most of this winter, it's been even more puzzling. When I've gone so far as to suggest one of them just go back into the store and bring an alternate supply to the front, they've replied that they couldn't do...

out on the big limb: Poetic feet
http://outonthebiglimb.blogspot.com/2015/08/poetic-feet.html
Out on the big limb. Warning: this is one of those blogs that goes all over the place. Poems, politics, gripes, praise. A little of everything from an avowed generalist. Tuesday, August 04, 2015. Not that kind of poetic feet. The feet with the beautiful blue toenails belong to poet Sandy Shreve. She's just released a new book of poems, Waiting for the Albatross. So what have her feet got to do with anything? I suppose it would have been more fun to have a video of those expressive feet in action, but som...

out on the big limb: O Canada (on Canada Day)

Out on the big limb. Warning: this is one of those blogs that goes all over the place. Poems, politics, gripes, praise. A little of everything from an avowed generalist. Wednesday, July 01, 2015. O Canada (on Canada Day). If you're not sure who Louis Riel. Was, click on his name for a one-minute history lesson. Sadly, a lot of those words - especially the ones about government - are just as true now as they were then. Although I'm one who considers him a hero, not everyone does. It's more than a little i...

out on the big limb: How early is too early?
http://outonthebiglimb.blogspot.com/2015/07/how-early-is-too-early.html
Out on the big limb. Warning: this is one of those blogs that goes all over the place. Poems, politics, gripes, praise. A little of everything from an avowed generalist. Wednesday, July 08, 2015. How early is too early? Not long ago, I noticed that the blackberries were starting to ripen. It was just an isolated few, but whoa - that's no longer the case. They're over a month early, but try telling that to them. They just keep ripening and ripening, so I just keep picking. I remember your jam fondly.
