The Cheapskate Urban Gardener: July 2015
http://cheapskategardener.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 27, 2015. RECIPES FOR A CHEAPSKATE: Cherry Tomato Pie. I've been blessed with a lot of cherry tomatoes so I'm going to use them. I picked sixteen off of the plant today. I'm going to make a cherry tomato/bacon pizza pie with them. First, I slice each one in half. Then marinated in olive oil for a day. With a can of San Marzano tomatoes, some salt, garlic, and oregano (also from the garden), I boiled it for 20 minutes, then simmered for 2 hours. Near the end, we added a teaspoon of sugar.

The Cheapskate Urban Gardener: Au Revoir, Mr. Go-pher
http://cheapskategardener.blogspot.com/2012/10/au-revoir-mr-go-pher.html
Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Au Revoir, Mr. Go-pher. This rose is Double Delight and is one of my best roses along my back wall garden. I love my roses but, unfortunately, so do gophers. The roots of the roses are like bacon-wrapped candy to a pocket gopher. As you can see, my back yard backs right up to the foothills and the mountains just beyond. That area is home to thousands of critters.many of them gophers. When we first moved in, I put in several rose bushes along the wall. So what did I do? We both l...

The Cheapskate Urban Gardener: August 2015
http://cheapskategardener.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 25, 2015. RECIPES FOR A CHEAPSKATE: Lasagna. God has given us an abundance of tomatoes this year, the challenge is to use them all. This week, it's everybody in the pool as I make a sauce for my lasagna. I have four hybrid, 1/2 heirloom, and about a dozen cherry tomatoes leftover from last week's harvest that I need to use before they go bad. First step, chop them all up into cubes. The cherry tomatoes will just be cut in half like I did with my pizza sauce a few weeks ago. I oil up a bak...

The Cheapskate Urban Gardener: What You Gonna Do With Those Shoes?
http://cheapskategardener.blogspot.com/2015/07/what-you-gonna-do-with-those-shoes.html
Tuesday, July 21, 2015. What You Gonna Do With Those Shoes? Every gardener needs a good pair of shoes. Not only for protection against any thorns you might drop in trimming but also working around rocks and power tools. I'm the Cheapskate, so I'm not going to buy a pair strictly for gardening. I just use my oldest pair of tennis shoes. They go to the bottom of the totem pole and become my gardening shoes. As the top rung of the shoes get replaced by new pairs, all the others move down a rung. There was a...

The Cheapskate Urban Gardener: A Weighty Harvest Indeed
http://cheapskategardener.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-weighty-harvest-indeed.html
Tuesday, August 4, 2015. A Weighty Harvest Indeed. There are so many tomatoes on our plant that it is weighing it down and blocking my son's access on our path. It's in a cage but the cage is no match for this vigorously growing plant that's full of fruit. What a wonderful problem to have! Let's see what I can do. I take a couple of stakes, push the cage up against the wall as hard as I can, and pound the stakes through the cage and plant to hold it up to the wall as best I can. Greening of the Orange.
