just a girl with the wind on her back

Saturday, February 13, 2010. Mr B and I are engaged to be married! This is how it all went down:. We went to NYC the last weekend of January to see the Lion King, celebrate our 4th anniversary, spend the night and generally wander the city (he had never been there - what? We decide on City Lobster. Because it's sassy, semi close and taking part in NYC Restaurant Week. We both get all dolled up and brave the arctic like weather for the four block walk (made more interesting by somewhat ill fitting shoes?

just a girl with the wind on her back: of Michelle, Jackie, Beyonce & Eleanor

http://www.windonmyback.blogspot.com/2009/12/my-sister-lives-in-ireland-and-so-we.html

Friday, December 4, 2009. Of Michelle, Jackie, Beyonce and Eleanor. My sister lives in Ireland, and so we communicate mostly through the wonderful invention that is gchat. The biggest benefit? All the conversations are recorded. [We'll call her Bug, as that's the shortened version of the nickname, Bugaboo, I gave her when we were kids. PRE Destiny's Child making a hit out of it, for the record.]. I was reading that article on their marraige. I wanna be michelle. The one from the NYT mag? And in local news.

just a girl with the wind on her back: November 2009

http://www.windonmyback.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 30, 2009. That time of year, again. Holiday weekends do not typically bring with them productivity. Case in point: I had the week off of school, which would have been a great time to get ahead of the game. Instead I read books not about the American Revolution, and watched a lot of movies. We did not plan Netflix correctly and found ourselves at the local Red Box, where we rented 3 movies on Saturday evening –. Up, The Ugly Truth. Funny People, Angels and Demons. Of course, Thanksgiving ...

just a girl with the wind on her back: it's a long term thing, as it turns out

http://www.windonmyback.blogspot.com/2009/12/one-of-my-gifts-for-holidays-was.html

Wednesday, December 30, 2009. It's a long term thing, as it turns out. I just finished the second day of week 7 in the Couch to 5K, which was my third 25 minute run. The first two I did with someone else (my sister, and then Mr B) but this was my first solo endeavor. And I did it! I am, however, getting a bit bored with my route but until I feel brave enough to conquer the hills that surround the apartment, I will stick to the Rip Van Winkle Bridge (and hey, the view is GREAT! Labels: couch to 5k.

just a girl with the wind on her back: January 2010

http://www.windonmyback.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Friday, January 15, 2010. Never again will I complain about counter space. I was lucky enough to be able to spend Tuesday into Wednesday down in Astoria with Generally Fabulous. As alluded to earlier, the trip consisted of eating and drinking; but we did do other things as well! We attempted David's Bridal (S is getting married! And left after maybe 5 minutes, utterly terrified. (She recounts the experience here. The biggest and tastiest bagel I have EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE, lunch at Mojave (crab dip, marga...

generally fabulous.: December 2010

http://generally-fabulous.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 1, 2010. Not sure how I should feel about this. The other night, for instance, as I struggled to stay awake, I told E to just "ask the cookie vendor" rather than talk to me. In my head, we were in the holiday market at Grand Central Terminal, and there was a guy selling lovely frosted cookies. In reality, we were in bed in our freezing cold bedroom in Queens. Six of one, half dozen of the other. A few minutes later, I started singing a variation on this classic Fats Domino tune:.

http://generally-fabulous.blogspot.com/2010/11/my-first-ravioli-adventure.html

Sunday, November 7, 2010. My first ravioli adventure! Another busy weekend has flown by, and now I am staring down the dreaded Monday morning once again! Ah, well, at least it was a good weekend. Friday night, E and I got right down to business with some couscous and feta stuffed peppers. The filling for these peppers was absolutely delicious even on its own! Anyway. He ended up simply scooping all the filling out and leaving behind the peppers. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. Saturday night E and I ...

Fascinating photo essay, today I share with you the contents of my refrigerator and freezer. Of course, I think that no longer spending all of our waking hours planning the wedding helps, too. A few snippets before I dive into more comprehensive posts. These are things no one told me (or everyone told me, but I didn't believe) before the wedding:. We were buzzed for about 5 days straight. People will surprise you. I have a bl...

http://generally-fabulous.blogspot.com/2010/10/unfortunately-taking-walks-wasnt-really.html

Tuesday, October 19, 2010. Unfortunately, "taking walks" wasn't really something we could do together in our apartment. I want so badly to post a few recipes I've made in the last few weeks, but this is turning into a straight up food blog, so instead of my usual recap, I will do a link-and-one-sentence-review for each:. Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins. Ziti with Roasted Zucchini. In non-food news, the weather on Sunday was essentially perfect: around 70 degrees, light breeze. E and I grabbed lunch wi...

That's right, folks, we outer borough folk do head into Manhattan for some entertainment and merrymaking! Yes, we will continue to try to lure you into our realms ("I'll take you to the Beer Garden. Being one of the key baits), but we also head over to the island once in a while. Which houses an historic barge (now a bar and grill!

Saturday, June 19, 2010. Summer = delicious, cheap fruit. It's been a few weeks! I've been settling into a full time internship and trying to enjoy the beautiful weather before it gets too hot around here! I kind of hate the summertime. I mean, I love the lush vegetation and abundance of fun activities, and there's nothing like a warm summer night spent outside drinking, but I wish it never got above 80 degrees. Ever. I've also been buying lots of fruit! Serves me right for jumping the gun, I guess.

Tuesday, September 28, 2010. I highly recommend this recipe, which is the first I've made up on my own for minestrone! Shae's Rough Vegetarian Minestrone Soup. 1/4 cup vegetable oil. 4 cloves of garlic, crushed (this can be reduced. we eat a lot of garlic and are desensitized). 1/2 cup white onion, chopped. 1/4 cup carrot, chopped. 1/3 cup celery, chopped. 1 can crushed tomatoes (one of those big guys). 1 can cannellini (white kidney beans). 1 can red kidney beans. 2 pounds zucchini, diced. generally fabulous.: Oh, hey.

http://generally-fabulous.blogspot.com/2011/08/oh-hey.html

Wednesday, August 10, 2011. I have a blog. Which I stopped writing in due to the upheaval of finishing school, writing my thesis, starting my very first grown up job, and planning (and having! A wedding. It's been a very busy 8 months, but with the wedding done and life finally settling back into normalcy, I feel like my thoughts are my own again, my life isn't on public display to be critiqued and picked apart by everyone I know, and therefore I might as well start blogging again. Poor Girl Eats Well.
