Tuesday, August 7, 2007. I came across a blog where it catched my attention with a picture which is so alienated to me. It looks like a lizard fish dragon. The Axolotl (or ajolote) (Ambystoma mexicanum) is the best-known of the Mexican neotenic. Belonging to the Tiger Salamander complex. Larvae of this species fail to undergo metamorphosis. So the adults remain aquatic and gilled. The species originates from the lake underlying Mexico City. Axolotls should not be confused with waterdogs. Quote of The Day.
