Wood Is Art: April 2014

http://woodisart.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 18, 2014. A New Series of Two-Sided Paintings/Sculptures. I recently finished three pieces of a new series that I am very happy with and I look forward to exploring more. They are two-sided paintings/sculptures. I love how they are unclassifiable, in addition to being both painting and sculpture, they simultaneously represent three different art movements: abstract expressionism, geometric abstraction, and minimalism. February 2014a (side one). Mixed media on wood. 85" x 40" x 1". February ...

Wood Is Art: October 2014

Friday, October 17, 2014. Summer Home Improvement Projects. Once the snow melts and it warms up enough to set up the miter saw in my carport, I can start a number of long over-due home improvement projects, one of which I have been thinking about for over ten years. As a side note, I'm particularly happy with the header over the inside of the door, it is much more interesting than if I had used the standard ninety degree cuts, and now I can enjoy looking at it too. Here is a second view of the island&#46...

Wednesday, May 13, 2015. May 2014, March 2015, and April 2015. I'm a bit behind on posting about my work so here is an update with the five pieces I completed in March and April and another that I finished last year but just got around to photographing. Starting with the most recent, April 2015c. April 2015c (side 1). Acrylic, shellac, epoxy, and oil pastel on wood with metal suspension. 80" x 23" x 1". 2675" wide including metal suspension). Wood Is Art: December 2014

http://woodisart.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Monday, December 8, 2014. In Pursuit of A Great Liberation Through Seeing. Over the summer I reworked my dining room table, adding an experimental acrylic painting to the surface. I liked how it turned out, and especially enjoyed the surprises that would arise in the painting process. Each of the geometric shapes had a blend of colors, unplanned, that contrasted with one another in a way that emphasizes the brush strokes. So I decided to try the same technique on non-functional pieces. 26" x 17" x 2".

Art Rolls On: March 2015

http://janetvanfleet.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 7, 2015. I've been cleaning out my studio recently, and shifting things around, especially on the walls. I've had a 1999 triptych based on the creation story in Genesis. That's been on the back wall of the studio for many years, and I think it's time to take it down and try to find a new home for it. Of note about this piece: there are two different stories in Genesis. Here are some detail shots of the piece. Monday, March 2, 2015. OK, I'm pretty happy with this piece:.

Art Rolls On: Creative Cosmos

http://janetvanfleet.blogspot.com/2015/06/creative-cosmos.html

Wednesday, June 24, 2015. Is an exhibit of paintings, prints, weaving sculpture, and digital images that explores how artists respond to the universal cosmic order and are inspired by scientific discoveries. It opens June 20th and runs through Labor Day. The Vermont and New Hampshire artists exhibiting include Sabra Field, Paul Calter, Cameron Davis, Janet Van Fleet, Bhakti Ziek, Marcus Greene, and Jim Robinson. Manny would LOVE this! By the way I added an email subscribe to my blog.

Art Rolls On: Closet Finished

http://janetvanfleet.blogspot.com/2015/05/closet-finished.html

Friday, May 22, 2015. Here's a look at The Closet. On exhibit now at The Front. In Montpelier. I decided the figure needed something inside - long silk underwear. Is how I think of it (though it's not actually silk, it does have that feel). Take it away for $950 (it will be great for the new gallery to have a sale! I love these curio cabinets. New directions in art

http://www.chasens.ca/directions.html

New Directions: Links to Innovative Art. I have been searching, looking for new movements, new ideas, innovation, new directions and developments, new avant-garde, in the visual arts for the 21th century. Particularly, I would like to connect with artists who are moving in my direction. Me, I carve sculpture, using the unique nature of wood, and I would like to be part of a movement toward a green new art, an art that doesn't give up in this new millennium. 21th Century indigenous art. Art Rolls On: February 2015

http://janetvanfleet.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 28, 2015. Sometimes it takes a long time to get a piece I am satisfied with. I think this is particularly the case when I'm working on something that has to fit into a theme, or someone else's plan/exhibit/concept. A case in point is an exhibit that I was invited to produce a piece for that will be part of a storytelling event in a space behind Gallery Six in Montpelier on March 21. The theme is the 1001 Nights. But not in my possession. Friday, February 20, 2015. Five by Five Grid.

Art Rolls On: Out There

http://janetvanfleet.blogspot.com/2015/06/out-there.html

Thursday, June 4, 2015. Thanks to Anne Sarcka for letting me use a spare wall in her studio this afternoon to put together a hanging template for my installation Out There. Which uses five pieces built on top of photographs from the Hubble Space Telescope and ten small oil-on-board pieces representing asteroids (or rocks). It will be going to the Chandler Gallery in Randolph for their next show, The Creative Cosmos. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Links to Janet-related Things. Studio Place Arts (SPA).

Art Rolls On: The Closet

http://janetvanfleet.blogspot.com/2015/04/the-closet.html

Monday, April 13, 2015. Eleanor Ott gave me a fabulous cabinet, and I very quickly knew what I wanted to do with it. The Closet. I appropriated the button garment of the man in this piece. And hung it inside the cabinet, surrounded by cabinet cards of young men. It is very beautiful. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Links to Janet-related Things. Art Rolls On: April 2015

http://janetvanfleet.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 23, 2015. The Telephone project hit the ground running, with excellent coverage in the New York Times. Wow, I never thought it would come to this when I made my piece:. You can have fun on the Telephone website. Or start from my page. This project is an awesome example of a great, selfless idea, and people who made it happen because they wanted to do something wonderful. That's what art is. Tuesday, April 21, 2015.
