5000 is the personal research blog of Brian J. McNely. Assistant Professor in the Division of Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Media at the University of Kentucky. I have poorly maintaned this blog since May of 2002. Here, I mostly write about things related to my research, though I do post occasional reflections on life beyond my research activity. I study professional writing in digital environments. Almost all of my work uses empirical visual research methods, primarily visual ethnography.
