Monday, 31 August 2015. A perfect, flat calm day with good cloud cover and plenty of birds around the lighthouse in the morning; the nets were (relatively) busy with 45 new birds caught including 2 Sparrowhawks, a Yellow Wagtail, 5 Garden Warblers, 9 White Wagtails, a Reed Warbler, 8 Tree Pipits and 2 Rock Pipits. Sunday, 9 August 2015. Overcast and chilly with a light easterly breeze first thing giving a real autumnal feel but there was again, little evidence of any passerine movement in the nets with 2 Whitethroats and a Garden Warbler in amongst 10 new Willow Warbler (which are down by two thirds when compared to this time last year and 2014 wasn’t really a good year for them! Saturday, 15 August 2015. Other birds included 32 Teal, 5 Wigeon, 50 Mallards, 78 Greylag Geese and 8 Herons before the day’s highlight of a big juvenile female Goshawk. Was flying around Lebeltet Nord – my first of the autumn. The weather closed in again just after lunch with more heavy rain and strong easterly winds which put an end to my enthusiasm to get out and about! Plenty of time left. Great Knot (with geolocator). And the two races of Gull-billed Terns over there with the smaller, migratory.

Saturday, 1 August 2015. Another excellent calm start to the day but the nets were pretty quiet with the obvious highlight being a smart Wood Warbler. In amongst a few Willow Warblers; most of the morning’s interest was on Vågsvollvåien as there was a fine selection of waders on there at first light which included a Golden Plover, 2 Ruff, 5 Bar-tailed Godwits, 4 Curlew, 2 Greenshank, 3 Green Sandpipers, 5 Wood Sandpipers and 6 Common Sandpipers along with 5 Teal and a Heron. Pallid x Hen Harrier hybrid.

Tuesday, 11 August 2015. Heavy rain for the first couple of hours soon drifted away to leave a nice, sunny day; there were a few waders on the move offshore with small numbers of Knot, Dunlin and Oystercatchers heading south while the first 5 juvenile Kittiwakes of the autumn went north as did a drake Velvet Scoter and a couple of Bonxies were lingering with intent. Other birds in the morning included a Little Grebe. On Vågsvollvåien (actually only the third ever August record! A selection of Knots.
