Survival of a Skier: November 2012
http://knutejohnsgaard.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Survival of a Skier. Friday, November 23, 2012. The first races are only a week away and it feels like I should be half way through the season. I guess we have been skiing for 5 weeks… still I'm feeling fresh and can't wait to start racing. Most of the big hours and hard strength workouts are already over and now its the easy part. Photo by David Greer. Photo by Malkolm Boothroyd. Ten snowshoe hare in one day! Time trial tomorrow and then off to Canmore Sunday morning! Posted by Knute Johnsgaard. I like ...

Survival of a Skier: July 2012
http://knutejohnsgaard.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Survival of a Skier. Wednesday, July 4, 2012. Hit’n the Training Camps. Summer has not moved north yet. July 3. With daytime high of 14 degrees, I reminisce about the weather at nationals this past March. But cold weather hasn’t stopped us from putting in big hours on training camps. Navigating the ridge through the fog. Boot skiing like a pro. Up-hill running technique: using arms to drive legs up the mountain. Photos by David Greer). The Denver Glacier is a short but treacherous hike from Skagway, Alas...

Survival of a Skier: April 2014
http://knutejohnsgaard.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Survival of a Skier. Monday, April 7, 2014. Racing is like Bison Hunting. This race season was a good one! I’m very proud of Colin and Myself for pulling off another year as Yukon Elite Squad. Yukon Elite Squad sporting Air North hats. I was able to stay atop the mound of hard work I piled up this past summer and slid off only a few times with a cold, or bad skis. I won’t babble about every race I did this year, rather look at what went well. U23s, Val Di Fiemme. Course doesn’t favor you? I like hunting,...

Survival of a Skier: December 2012
http://knutejohnsgaard.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Survival of a Skier. Friday, December 7, 2012. The trails in Canmore were designed for the 88 Olympics and are extremely hard. The races last weekend (Dec. 1, 2) were also used to qualify athletes for the Canadian World Cups this December. Start of my quarterfinal. Finish of my quarterfinal. Posted by Knute Johnsgaard. Survival of a Skier: First Sheep with a Bow!
http://knutejohnsgaard.blogspot.com/2014/08/first-sheep-with-bow.html
Survival of a Skier. Thursday, August 14, 2014. First Sheep with a Bow! They say a picture tells a thousand words but this story takes more than a thousand words and certainly more than this one poor quality image. Sheep Hunting Trip #1. Day one, lesson five: practice shooting in wind. I couldn’t believe it. I have a five-inch group from 50 yards at the target. How can I miss three times on a sheep from a closer distance? Sheep hunting trip #2. Day hunt, lesson one: rangefinders are useless in the fog...

Survival of a Skier: June 2013
http://knutejohnsgaard.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Survival of a Skier. Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Here I am on top of a mountain. Many more to conquer. I dont tend to take pictures on lonely roller ski workouts but heres a picture David Greer took of me on a lonely road bike ride in the Kluane Chilkat International Bike Relay… close enough. Our team came first in the 4 person category and 3rd overall. It was an awesome weekend with temperatures pushing 30 degrees. I cooled off after the race by going for a really long swim in the ocean.

Survival of a Skier: Skiing, fishing, hunting, and mushrooms
http://knutejohnsgaard.blogspot.com/2014/08/skiing-fishing-hunting-and-mushrooms.html
Survival of a Skier. Friday, August 1, 2014. Skiing, fishing, hunting, and mushrooms. Yukon is great as always and I've been putting in some big training in this great land. In Haines we stayed with legendary outfitter Paul Dueling. His grandson Marcus is on the Yukon Ski team. Colin marvelling at the trophy room. World's record Mountain Caribou. Annah Hanthorn of the Yukon Ski Team puts the Eilte Squad to shame in the gym. All other junior girls should be scared. Zero dollars of mush. Dave at the Burn.

Survival of a Skier: August 2012
http://knutejohnsgaard.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Survival of a Skier. Tuesday, August 7, 2012. The Denver Glacier had a lot of miles put on it this past July. We’d wake up from our damp wall tent, take two steps out the door and snap on the zeros. For five days we skied through a mix of foggy, snowing, and bluebird conditions. Typical Glacier weather I guess: never knowing what to expect. Training was phenomenal. The whole glacier crew. Survival of a Skier: March 2013
http://knutejohnsgaard.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Survival of a Skier. Wednesday, March 6, 2013. As real life speeds up, I've fallen into a bit of a blog slump. Too much going on to want to sit in front of a computer, especially when I'm already writing a bi-weekly article for Whats Up Yukon. Newspaper. Nevertheless I feel guilty. I’ve also discovered that I get way more hits on my blog when I write about something other than skiing so here’s all about the Bison hunt I just came back from with Dave. It took about five K to get the cheese nice and gooey ...
