peace of home

Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Kitchen Renovation : Day 1 : It Looks Better Already. The cabinets, the fur down, the countertops, the appliances - they're all gone! Quite a bit of progress was made on day 1! In the last picture you will see how they made a new hole in one of the kitchen walls- this used to be a broom closet, but we don't really need it, now that the laundry room has plenty of storage. So, by removing it, we gain about 12in of additional space in the kitchen! Click to see the BEFORE pics.

Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Dreaming of a Farmhouse (Part 2). If you missed yesterday's post, Dreaming of a Farmhouse (part 1). Read it before going on so you aren't confused! I can't have chickens? What if I want to have chickens. If I am moving to the country then I want to have chickens. I guess it's not worth scratching everything we have done so far just because we can't have chickens.". Our conversation went on a little longer, and then we just decided we would deal with the regulations. She mentione...

Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Movin' to the country. I feel as though I kinda left y'all hanging last week. You know we listed our house for sale and sold it, but now what are we doing? Last night I was reading through all of my favorite blogs,. When I found this download. From the precious Lay Baby Lay. And as I read it, I couldn't help but smile. This is why we sold our house. Moving to the country. We've purchased two acres and are mid-design process with an architect for building our home! Disclaimer: t...

There is nothing like seeing the finished results before taking the risk. And beginning the project on your own. They can even help you discover your personal design style. Most of the inspiration for our remodel began with the following images. I have always loved white cabinets and wood floors. Everything just worked together.

{vittles}: bagels

http://vittlesforthevoracious.blogspot.com/2012/01/bagels.html

Sunday, January 1. I love bagels and have been wanting to make my own for a while. In keeping with my resolution to try to bake more bread, I went for it yesterday! Adapted from Artisan Breads Every Day by Peter Reinhart and BGSK. You can find barley malt syrup at a specialty foods store or Whole Foods. 1 tablespoon barley malt syrup, honey, or rice syrup. 1 teaspoon instant yeast. 1 ½ teaspoons salt, or 2 ½ teaspoons coarse kosher salt. {vittles}: grilled skewers

http://vittlesforthevoracious.blogspot.com/2012/06/grilled-skewers.html

Friday, June 8. I love vegetables. My husband loves meat. I had been wanting to do skewers since, well, last summer when I bought some metal skewers. We called these shish-ka-bobs growing up. It was a super easy very flavorful and flexible summer meal. Surprisingly, this was my first meal to ever grill myself. I was really proud of myself. Next up: grilled pizza. Summer Skewers on the grill. Makes eight skewers {or five skewers plus about 4 cups side veggies in a grill basket}. 2 cups sliced mushrooms.

Friday, May 6. Umb I'm dumb. Where has this been? I'm sure I own the Ina Garten cookbook that it's in. As in, for the last three years this recipe {or rather this simple 8 minute interaction between a hot oven and four household staples}. Has been sitting in my kitchen, in painfully close proximity to the freezer which houses an old, colossal and overly ambitions, never ending bag of frozen shrimp. Le Sigh. Despite the time it took, I'm so glad cute Little Kitchen. Via The Little Kitchen that Could.

Friday, August 26. Roasted Cauliflower with almonds, lemon and parsley. By halving the recipe but doubling the nuts, I could almost have eaten this as a main dish. It's from Ina Garten's The Barefoot Contessa:How Easy is That? Serves 4-6 {I halved this, except the nuts and lemon juice}. 1 head garlic, cloves separated but not peeled. 1 large head cauliflower, trimmed and cut into large florets. 4 1/2 tbsp olive oil. 2 1/2 tsp kosher salt. 1 tsp ground black pepper. 1 Heat oven to 450 degrees* F. Friday, April 29, 2011. The Santiago Huckleberry candle from Voluspa may just be my favorite scent in the world. When the wick on my candle gets really low, I've been known to just sit and sniff the empty purple tin to get every last whiff of its huckleberry goodness. I'm not sure I even know exactly what a huckleberry is, but I love it! It's an off menu blended drink that is amazing. Speaking of sweet, how precious is this puppy? Thursday, April 28, 2011. Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Guess who's blogging TWO days in a row? If you've been reading my blog for a while, you know that I'm kind of obsessed with trying new makeup. I have a ridiculously large makeup collection. Well, when I try new things that I love, I feel it necessary to share it with you! Stila Tone Correcting Triple Swirl Helix Primer. My skin tone is extremely uneven. Unless I'm tan, I have red splotchy skin. And let's face it, I'm never tan anymore. This stuff works, y'all! And it's an SPF 30!

A Little Peace of Heaven . . . In My Heart

Tuesday, 15 January 2013. My Mother died on January 4th,2013. I have been distracted and sad. Focused and happy. . . and unable to write anything that would make any sense. I'll be back soon. A little "Peace" of Me!

Sunday, January 08, 2012. January 9. Twenty. Twelve. A lot of people loathe Mondays. I adore Mondays. It's like a tiny little new year every seven days. A day to start over. To set goals. To make lists. To get things accomplished. So today, I am making a list of all the things to do tomorrow and this coming week. A select few of these items on my list are:. 2 Keep purging my paperwork at work and at home! This excites me very, very, very much! 5 Get intimately acquainted with my new camera lens. ANDTwent...

A Little Peace of Me . . . | "On many long journeys have I gone. And waited, too, for others to return from journeys of their own. Some return; some are broken; some come back so different only their names remain."

A Little Peace of Me . . . On many long journeys have I gone. And waited, too, for others to return from journeys of their own. Some return; some are broken; some come back so different only their names remain. Describe an important item from your childhood. Why was it important and where is it now? And my first name is after her. She babysits me often and though she is legally blind, she sits next to me at her kitchen table quietly coloring with me. It’s OK grandma.” I say. May 17, 2015.
