Wilderness City: A Little Bit Crazy
http://wildernesscity.blogspot.com/2008/03/little-bit-crazy.html
A Little Bit Crazy. Better if she thinks I'm a little bit crazy. And loves me anyway. How can I start singing and dancing. I don't give an explanation to my self. How can I follow my soul's direction,. In to infinite vistas or holocaust ovens? These things come to me, I can't ignore them. Better if she thinks I'm a little bit crazy. And loves me anyway. How can I ever really laugh, or cry? How can I find myself jacked up on raw electric energy. Better, I say, if she thinks I'm a little bit crazy. And I s...

Wilderness City: Spring returns to Israel
http://wildernesscity.blogspot.com/2008/03/spring-returns-to-israel.html
Spring returns to Israel. A few weeks back I wrote this:. The hawks are back! I just saw two of them flying up the wadi. Jumped out of my seat and leaned over my desk. Looking out my window as they sailed past. Brown, motionless wings. Drawn on by unseen winds. Drawing my heart after them. Today I went for a walk on the wild side of Jerusalem's Sachar Park - the wild rakafot. Poppies), and skediot. Almonds) are blooming up a storm - all pink, red, and white. Beautiful! Wilderness City: What I learned
http://wildernesscity.blogspot.com/2007/10/what-i-learned.html
Well, the adventure of being Executive Director of a small yeshiva. Is coming to a close. I thought I'd last more than 8 months, but I have been disproved. Don't ask me where I'm going, I haven't figured it all out yet. I'm staying on the board of the yeshiva and helping to find a replacement for me, cooking up some projects with the Creative Zionists. Come visit us at the GA. Looking for a place to learn, trying to decide if I'm going to bite the bullet and sit for smicha. What do you want to do? At som...

Turning the Tide: April 2006
http://turningthetideblog.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Thoughts on Life, Israel, and the Jewish World. Monday, April 10, 2006. Book Review: Postville - A Clash of Cultures in Heartland America. What happens when Brooklyn Lubavitchers move to rural Iowa to open America's largest kosher slaughterhouse? To call it a clash of cultures is to put it mildly: the two groups could not have been more different. Bloom spends most of the book talking to people on both sides of the divide and finds each side simmering with hatred for the other. Thursday, April 06, 2006.

Turning the Tide: August 2005
http://turningthetideblog.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html
Thoughts on Life, Israel, and the Jewish World. Thursday, August 18, 2005. As I perused the usual assortments of websites and blogs this morning, I hit upon something interesting on my friend Dan's site, Orthodox Anarchist (http:/ www.orthodoxanarchist.com/. That's why Israel advocacy must make every effort to reach people in those groups where anti-Israel groupthink is at its strongest. Because when people encounter diverse ideas, they become less dependent on their groups's ideas and become less wi...

Turning the Tide: November 2005
http://turningthetideblog.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html
Thoughts on Life, Israel, and the Jewish World. Thursday, November 24, 2005. The New Political Landscape. We vote a lot around here. The last time was the fourth time in seven years ('96, '99, '01, and '03). It seems so long ago now. At the end of 2004, we'd gone a full calendar year without voting or dissolving the government. We're finally out of the Netanyahu-Barak era and way past the Peres era. (What would happen if Peres ran for office unopposed? Would he still have to lose? I also wonder if anyone...

Wilderness City: A Grab Bag of Light
http://wildernesscity.blogspot.com/2005/12/grab-bag-of-light.html
A Grab Bag of Light. A good Hanukkah to all! I just hope the 2 hours I spent forced to choose between below freezing temperatures and listening to "The greatest variety of.Christmas music" goes on my record as cleaning up some grievous wrongdoing. For MCAryeh, who's troubled. By the lack of good Hanukkah music, here's one with a whole lot of soul. It came to me just as the sun was finishing to set into the first night here in Jerusalem. And what if the lamp is in the desert? Then you have to take off you...

Wilderness City: Going out to Country
http://wildernesscity.blogspot.com/2005/08/going-out-to-country.html
Going out to Country. I ended up, after months of searching, with a full time job, and that’s where I’ve remained. They suffer my strange schedule, as I aim to pack my learning into the mornings and wander in to work in time for a late brunch. How does it help the world? How does it affect my understanding of reality? How does it change how I act? That’s what was missing. There are a few precious teachers I’ve found who really focus on the whole range – not the big picture, not the small pict...Good insi...
