a silent jam: November 2006

Friday, November 24, 2006. Post chess game feedback. Any talk of the latest war against the Hezbollah guerillas is usually pretty negative. How the once mighty Israel army was defeated. The mistakes made from top Israeli Officials, the mistakes made from the reservists, the mistakes made by the nation as a whole. Who's the bad guy? The lady walking her dog? The nice man taking his kids to school? The old man with the cane? The youth playing soccer in the field? Amichai Merchavyah, a fellow reservist was ...

Sunday, March 26, 2006. A brief history of bar fights. Where do you think you are going to meet her, in a bar? This question is asked by many, to the single folk out there. It's always asked with a bit of sarcasm. Of course you are not going to meet your perfect mate in a bar, right? Well maybe let's not be so quick to judge here! Isaac found his wife Rivka at a well. She was judged at how she conducted herself there. She passed with flying colors! Now, there has to be something to all this right? How di...

Eye of the Eagle. This is a site, in the spirit of Rav Kook, dedicated to looking at our lives, our world, and perhaps even existence itself, from a perspective gained by taking a step back, a step up. Wednesday, August 30, 2006. Laizer at Wilderness City. Has a piece weighing in on the endless discussion of homosexuality and Judaism that I found engaging, but a certain spiritual inclination seemed to rear its head in his post that is perhaps best expressed by this short passage:. 1) Great is teshuva.

Tuesday, June 27, 2006. Tonight I will go to sleep in my comfortable bed. I will hopefully fall asleep with warm thoughts about my beautiful children and loving family abroad. I will be in the safety of my familiar 4 walls. I will look forward to tomorrow and hope to come that much closer to my dreams. Gilad's parent's home is not a home anymore. There is a hole so deep that will keep its foundation shaky forever. There is no peace. Every hopeful thought is wiped away quickly by stomach pains...Shay atah...

Turning the Tide: April 2006
http://turningthetideblog.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Thoughts on Life, Israel, and the Jewish World. Monday, April 10, 2006. Book Review: Postville - A Clash of Cultures in Heartland America. What happens when Brooklyn Lubavitchers move to rural Iowa to open America's largest kosher slaughterhouse? To call it a clash of cultures is to put it mildly: the two groups could not have been more different. Bloom spends most of the book talking to people on both sides of the divide and finds each side simmering with hatred for the other. Thursday, April 06, 2006.

Thoughts on Life, Israel, and the Jewish World. Thursday, August 18, 2005. As I perused the usual assortments of websites and blogs this morning, I hit upon something interesting on my friend Dan's site, Orthodox Anarchist (http:/ www.orthodoxanarchist.com/. That's why Israel advocacy must make every effort to reach people in those groups where anti-Israel groupthink is at its strongest. Because when people encounter diverse ideas, they become less dependent on their groups's ideas and become less wi...

Thoughts on Life, Israel, and the Jewish World. Thursday, November 24, 2005. The New Political Landscape. We vote a lot around here. The last time was the fourth time in seven years ('96, '99, '01, and '03). It seems so long ago now. At the end of 2004, we'd gone a full calendar year without voting or dissolving the government. We're finally out of the Netanyahu-Barak era and way past the Peres era. (What would happen if Peres ran for office unopposed? Would he still have to lose? I also wonder if anyone...

Thoughts on Life, Israel, and the Jewish World. Wednesday, September 21, 2005. Weird Scenes in the Old City, Part 1. Posted by Kalman Rushdie @ 2:27 PM. Friday, September 09, 2005. New Arab View of Israel. The always-lucid Ehud Ya'ari writes that Arab views toward Israel are shifting in the post-disengagement era. Instead of pushing for a massive attack on the Jewish state, some Arab thinkers are now predicting the state is nearing collapse on its own. Read the whole story. Friday, September 02, 2005.
