Blogging for English 201 at University of Wisconsin Madison. Sunday, October 29, 2006. Page 256 is where she talks about MUD's and how they are used to create online personae. Turkle brings up Gergen's idea of a "saturated self" and how communication technologies create linkages between people's minds on page 257. Turkle uses the metaphor for the self of a home page acting like real estate, and connecting to each other by linking many pages all across the world on page 259. On page 269 Turkle comes to th...

Tuesday, November 28, 2006. I had never heard of the traveling salesman thing, but it makes sense. I like the idea of ants as traveling salesmen and how they instictively know, or figure out, the shortest route between not only a place but many places. If ants are leaving trails of pheromones along their paths, what are internet users leaving from site to site that allows us to use the same concept as the ants? What is bottom-up versus top-down. I understand the idea of each but examples would help.

Sunday, October 29, 2006. To be perfectly honest, I had trouble understanding both of this week’s readings. Even after our discussion, I left feeling perplexed. Naturally, I’m not sure which reading to write about. Anyways here it goes. Eenie meenie miney moe. Catch the tiger by the toe. If he hollers let him go. Eenie meenie miney moe. It looks like Sherry Turkel’s Identity Crisis wins. Yay. [Insert sarcasm here]. Posted by Mike @ 10:55 PM. Thursday, October 26, 2006. I knew some of the people who start...

All You Need to Know: Online Identities and Smart A.I.
http://allyouneedtoknow-bryan.blogspot.com/2006/10/online-identities-and-smart-ai.html
All You Need to Know. Sunday, October 29, 2006. Online Identities and Smart A.I. This week’s articles dealt two distinct, but related topics. Both were about the formation of a character to imitate a real person. In one case the imitation was that of a real persons’ personality and in the other it was the case of a A.I. acting human. The article by Turkle was about online communities and the creation and use of MUD. Could describe the MUD to the class and on her blog. Starring Harrison Ford, in which For...

All You Need to Know. Monday, November 27, 2006. Feedback: Positive or Negative? The main use of feedback was in news stories. The major discussion we had was whether news today was really news and whether feedback was the reason that so much of the news became something out of nothing. The best example I can think of is in sports and Terrell Owens. Ger great and yet ESPN. Still tries to make them news. ESPN. And that's all you need to know,. Posted by Bryan @ 11:13 AM. Tripped Up
http://tripped-up.blogspot.com/2006/11/competition-have-you-ever-wondered.html
Sunday, November 19, 2006. Have you ever wondered what it is about winning and losing that really changes a person? Maybe it is not just winning and losing but the concept of success. In sports, people usually do not get as heated over a scrimmage as they would a regular game and then once a championship is in grasp, competition starts to boil over. What makes one person more competitive than another? Does an uncompetitve person not care about the outcome, or just does not let the win or lose effect them?
