Big Year Norway 2014

Friday, 30 January 2015. Big Year Norway Results. Hmm Yes, I should. Last weekend, I did a presentation of my Big Year for a bird club. It forced me to think back on the year and again realising all the great birding and experiences I had through the year. Despite not taking the record, I must anyway be very happy with the result. My Norwegian list increased by 18. To make 303 species in one year in Norway - you need to travel a bit. This also. This is picture show the sky above Northern Norway somewhere.

Big Year Norway 2014: June 2014

http://www.bigyearnorway.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Monday, 9 June 2014. Big Year in Svalbard. On my way to Svalbard, I had an overnight stop to tick off one the rarest breeding birds in Norway. Valdakmyra in Porsanger in the very northernmost part of Norway is the only place where Lesser white-fronted goose (dverggås) is possible to see. So on the 30. Every Svalbard expedition needs some Fulmar pictures (havhest) to be complete. I know this is a birding blog at the moment, but guiding people to. Big Year list. Big Year bird #260. Big Year Norway 2014: April 2014

http://www.bigyearnorway.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 29 April 2014. Tripple yankee doodle doo. Busy times indeed. Blue sky and steady easterly winds all the way from south eastern Europe to Norway made spring bird migration finally arrive! The long drive back went smooth, but uneventful bird wise. Several lapland longspur (lappspurv) were seen during a few short days. In my home area during Easter. The luxury of three American birds within few hundred meters from. Each other in Norway. Ergavann in the foreground, the famous Orrevann back. The shor...

Monday, 29 September 2014. Røst 3 - no birds for days, but then. YES, indeed - Buff-breasted sandpiper (rustsnipe) was flying back and forth overhead not really wanted to land. After doing this for a while, the sandpiper finally looked like landing in the area it first was discovered. Buff-breasted sandpiper in flight before landing, showing the diagnostic. Wing pattern of dark "comma" in primaries. The bigger bird being a. On the ground, showing rusty coloured neck and head. Very long, pale legs. I have...

Big Year Norway 2014: September 2013

http://www.bigyearnorway.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Monday, 2 September 2013. I remember the very first time I came to Svalbard. It was 6th June 2001. As many of the other people visiting Svalbard, one of my biggest hope was to see the Ross’s gull. After all Svalbard is part of the Arctic, and the ross’s gull is an Arctic species. A couple of blue whales later and a few days had passed – north of Svalbard somewhere I was still smiling from the nice ross’s gull observation when I again looked out the window. Two ross’s gulls! Cycling the World for Birds: October 2013

http://cyclingtheworldforbirds.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Cycling the World for Birds. Sunday, October 27, 2013. Turkey, at long last. The wind was relentless and always seemed to blow directly from the front no matter which way we were going. Coastal view on the way to İstanbul. Not much birding was done along the way! Cycling along the road works to avoid the traffic. Alex beside a modified motorcycle of sorts. My first beer in five years! Alex looking out to sea from our campsite; my first night without a tent. Heading for İstanbul, with miles still to go.

Cycling the World for Birds: November 2014

http://cyclingtheworldforbirds.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Cycling the World for Birds. Thursday, November 20, 2014. Malaysia in a rush. From Trichy in southern India I took a flight to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, to make my first appearance in South-East Asia. Wow, the humidity was a couple notches higher than what I had experienced in India, but such drastic changes are always welcomed and appreciated – a constant reminder that one is in a new and exciting place! Camping in a palm oil plantation in Malaysia. Typical roadside scene along Malaysia's west coast.

Cycling the World for Birds. Friday, July 31, 2015. How to get to Quito. Nothing seemed too different when I crossed the border from Colombia to Ecuador. It was still green hills everywhere. Before long I reached. Ecuador uses US Dollars as its currency (it replaced the Sucre), so the biggest change for me was adjusting to the new exchange rate. I'd been stuck on Colombian Pesos for six months,. Where 2500 Pesos were the equivalent of. One Dollar. It took a couple days for it to sink in…. After my birdin...

Cycling the World for Birds: February 2015

http://cyclingtheworldforbirds.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Cycling the World for Birds. Saturday, February 21, 2015. More mountains and birds. 40 km to San Gil before nightfall! Sure, they are not carrying the load that I am, but still! Closer to the top of the canyon was an amusement park of sorts, with countless Colombians enjoying the activities and incredible view over the canyon. Tackling the Chicamocha Canyon in the heat of the day; great view though! Traffic on the road while ascending Chicamocha. I was glad the road did not go through there! As I closed ...

Cycling the World for Birds: March 2014

Cycling the World for Birds. Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Down to the Persian Gulf. Just when I thought things couldn’t get better in Iran, I was in for another incredible couple weeks. The road south of Shiraz took me through some interesting terrain, and perhaps some of the most scenic I had seen yet in Iran. I love deserts (I grew up in one in South Africa), so am somewhat biased towards them! I couldn't tick this rooster and turkey for my bird trip list! An old bridge near Kavar, southern Iran. A second ...

Lauantai 11. heinäkuuta 2015. Lapin tunnelmia 18 - 22.6.

Aquí vos deixem l'estat dels Big Year Mallorca i del Big Year Illes Balears. Salut i un agost que no sigui com juliol! Envia per correu electrònic.
